Sonic the Hedgehog Franchise Theory: Mobius is Earth

Growing up, one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons was Sonic X, a Television series on 4Kids TV about a blue hedgehog and his friends who through an accident are teleported to our world along with Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, an evil scientist bent on using the "chaos emeralds" to control the entire world under the "Eggman Empire." During the run of Sonic X, Sonic and his comrades constantly mentioned being transported "through space and time" by the Chaos Emerald accident. Inevitably, Sonic scattered the Chaos Emeralds across the Milky Way Galaxy, and then upon returning to his world, he set out to find them. Wait a minute, if he returned to his world, why were the emeralds in the same locations, and why did Sonic mention earlier that Earth had the "same moon, same stars" as his planet?

Through other series featuring Sonic and his friend, such as "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog," and "Sonic Underground," I learned that Sonic and his friends referred to their world as "Mobius." Mobius was home not only to talking animals, mainly humanoid echidnas, but also a species known as the "overlanders," a species of surprisingly humanoid individuals who had a conflict with the "Mobians," the intelligent animals of Mobius. Through further research, I found a map of Mobius and well, it's shocking.

Mobius's continents are eerily similar to earth, and even share similar names. The similarities became too similar and inevitably I found something shocking, revealed through an Archie/Sonic crossover.

Ladies and gentlemen, Mobius is a future earth.

According to the Archie/sonic crossover, Earth was attacked by an alien race known as the Xorda in the 21st century, and Xorda "gene bombs" wiped out almost all life on earth's surface, reducing biological matter to a primordial ooze. From that ooze rose new, hybrid lifeforms, including the Overlanders, who were mutated humans. Sonic and his friends were not from an alternate universe or other planet, but were instead time travellers from a dark, distant future earth, which was now known as "mobius." They were mutated, evolved animals who now had the abiility to speak. When they were transported to America in the present day, they didn't travel through space at all. They travelled through time.

Did anyone else know this or is this new to you all as well? Thoughts on this revelation?

I only watched sonic when I was ten so I can barely remember anything nor am I a huge fan but that theory is good but too familiar to Adventure Time

It's a common sci fi troupe. Earth gets smashed up and thousands of years later a new, bizarre society of mutated animals and people take over. It's like Star Trek and Star Wars. Sci fi does this a lot.

Yes, this does appear to be the case for the Archie/SatAM version of Sonic. I've heard that the de-evolved descendants of our species are called "Overlanders." I'm not too familiar with the lore at this point though.

Mobius being future Earth- probably isn't the case for Sonic Boom or Sonic X. Sonic in general, is currently split into different "universes" where the characters are mostly the same but their personalities and the setting of the story is different from each iteration. With different universes having some characters specific to it. Cosmo for example, doesn't exist outside of Sonic X.

With only the video games by Sega being actual canon so far as Sonic the Hedgehog goes.

They gave hints in sonic X that they were from the future as well. As for the games, they're the easiest for the mind to handle because it's just "hedgehog make enemy go boom bye bye." No backstory required

Unfortunately, although this theory was correct a couple of years back (Xorda, gene-bombs, Overlanders as mutated humans, Mobians as mutated animals, with the Mobasaurs as mutated dinosaurs wiped out by even more meteors (although these were chaos emeralds), when the Archie Comics became no longer canon due to an artist/writer who I'm too lazy to look up sued the company, it was all retconned. For those interested.
Basically, the Xorda (Brain-looking alien species) came to Earth, and had their ambassador dissected by the US (We'd probably do it, too.) Enraged, they dropped gene-bombs, which reset everything on the planet back to it's most basic DNA. Time passes, and the Mobasaurs (Mobius + Dinosaur) rise. Chaos emeralds spread throughout the galaxy. When the green ones hit Earth, the Mobasaurs are wiped out (Except for the Ancient Walkers, who become Quasi-immortal), and time passes. As prehistoric species begin to rise, various things happpen. Mammoth Mogul gets his Chaos emerald, and raises his first empire. The other one is the Echidna civilization beginning to rise. Albion happens, Tasmanian devils get brutaly experimented on, Mammoth Mogul falls. Again. Filler space, filler space, Kingdom of Acorn.

There's a lot more, but that's the basic stuff.
