Now before I start I don't want any links or images posted here of explicit content, I already feel like I'm crossing some sort of line here, but here goes noticed that there is a lack of gay hentai in anime, in particular bara or homoerotic masculine men, despite the considerable amount of manga, comics, illustrations,art and community.
Most of the hentai anime genre that's under "gay" are either futanari ("girls" with penises, often in hard-core and explicit scenarios) or Yaoi with one effeminate bishounen boy or man being romanced or raped (or both) by the japanese female ideal of a "masculine man" (tall, thin, sinewy, with big hands). It is often softcore and more romantic than erotic/explicit since it's targeted more to a female audience.
I'll be presenting my conjecture and for a change, I'm starting from the most likely reason to the most unlikely.
Let's start with demand: Is there's very little to no demographics of gay men to cater to? But that's not true since there are a myriad of gay live pornography films in Japan.
Could it be taboo or forbidden? And then I had to laugh that one off considering all the unholy and degenerate sexual acts I've witnessed; would having sex with wolves, robots, undead, orcs, goblins, other monsters, appendages and eldritch abominations be acceptable and less shocking than two men going at it.
Is it a cultural thing? Is the masculine form not that appealing in the east regardless of your sexual orientation? Is that why there is little focus on men in hentai?
Or maybe there is this unspoken truce or agreement in the industry, like some sort of conspiracy to not represent manly men in hentai anime.
And last, and the most unlikeliest: Maybe they haven't noticed it yet, maybe they're so focused on trying to find a new genre or a new form of depravity and crimes against nature to get off to that the animated concept of sex between two men is just too mundane or boring.
I need anime experts.
