Knees weakening,
Arms limping out,
Eyes shutting like shutters,
Heart beating slower,
That must mean one thing.

I am tired!
No, I am not tired of life, don't be crazy!
I just need a nap, a little nap! I made bad desicions sleeping at night!
Watch me take a 10-min nap, that will escalate to a 3-hour sleep!

Also, I think this is advertising,
And I think it is wack that you do it here.
Oh shoot, it's the NS fuzz!
I better make a run-away,
Before I end up trapped in a locked forum.

*I am not sure about the above, all right?
I am making up rhymes that are NS-related.
I never told them about it, just let them see this and sort it out.
Because I simply have no idea on whether this is legal!

This has been going on for too long,
And I have too much free time!
But at the end of the day,
Some of us are poem geeks,
Some of us are poem dislikers.
But whatever it is, let's keep it respectful!

The folks on the NationStates forum
Don't always adhere to decorum
Their wicked agendum:
"We'd rather offend 'em -
At least they can't say that we bore 'em."

Advertise oh advertise
My eyes hurt
Commercial oh commercial
My ears hurt

This commercial is unpoetic poetry that does not funk
It is not poetry, it is unpoetry, I hate poetry because it is poetic
I do not write unpoetic funky poetry without rules

I am no poet and I know it
This definitely does show it
I know its not poetry

So throw it out. Let go of it.

with a slew of admiration,

When times are tough you stay true
That way you keep being you
Whenever you stray too far
You will fall below the bar

Causing much pain and stress
That will put you to the test
Until you come back to life
Causing abrupt strife

But a nasty voice says not so fast
Let's not be rash
I like it here, everything's fine
You can see my goals are mine

But what he did not hear
What was actually clear
Was the invisible voice near
That was yelling the opposite

I used to write poetry. I posted quite a bit on the original poets thread on the first forum. I haven't written in years though.

Meh. I have tried to write poetry myself, but I almost always fail to make a meaningful poem, not even talking about rhymes.

I've written enough to make factbooks out of them, but I won't kid myself and say they're good, they're fine.

Just in case, often when I discuss something, it's under the pretense of the Socratic Method or the devil's advocate, so just know that I don't always advocate for what I'm saying. Thank you.

Also, I have a habit of editing posts soon after they're made to correct minor errors. Please be aware of that.

I like reading them at times, as well as writing them. Although I haven't been writing much of late, aside from journaling.

Hello, I write haiku.

They shall rest
On their twisted green laurels
And drown in temporal praise

...

Softly he spoke
But firmly did he wield
The rod that shattered our bones

...

He ravished himself,
Decorated in medals,
And broke the coffin.

...

See how these smells
Linger on afterwards;
The ghosts of a battlefield

...

Speak now, you fool
Lest the opportunity
Forsake us forever

...

Now it is a beast.
It can no longer hear us
Telling it to stop.

...

Long have we travelled,
But only now do I
Begin to find my way.

I also wrote a sestina once, but I don’t think it’s all that great.

How often do we, the adults, try to back
Our fantasies of when we could fly
Farther than our little eyes could see,
As if trying to remember the dream
That abandoned us, while we were still
Asleep, the bedsheet seams about to burst.

It’s like running up a slope, in a burst
Of sparks, sweat rolling down my back,
Collecting in a puddle that remains still
Even amidst the ripples of the fly
That so rudely interrupted the dream
Of the blind man trying so hard to see.

Even after so long, I cannot see
Why we reach for that elusive burst,
Despite the futility of that childish dream,
Always nagging at us to go back,
To remember the time when we could fly
Away from the bars of the unmoving still.

A most deluded aspiration, but still
There is merit in trying, you see,
Though the gossip will soon fly
That you, my friend, tried to burst
Into the room to which we can’t turn back,
A hallucinatory, Stalinesque pipe dream.

Yet even Stalin knew how to dream!
Feverish, paranoid fantasies that they still
Wanted to go after him, to get back
At the past, its arm not letting us see
Our own foibles, so packed as to burst
Open the ceiling of the sky to which we fly.

How we forget, then, that time too can fly
(Away from us, that is), like the dark dream
That evades us, searching in a burst
Of impermanent motivation, that still,
For all its shortcomings, allows us to see
Ourselves differently, if but from the back.

Now we cannot fly, and the skies are still.
We have lost the dream, but now we can see
How silly we were, to burst the seams down the back.

Where's the "no poetry whatsoever" option? :p

In reality, I appreciate both reading and creating poetry. I don't consider myself a skilled writer though, nor interpreter of poetry, but I enjoy it when I am able to understand it.

Believe it or not, I know a few people who can write poetry only when they feel torn, like you described. It's not uncommon. Maybe that's why I haven't written anything in such a long time. I have been quite content in some aspects of my life that were before the reason for me feeling so sad.

My, Lang Leav. I used to dig her poetry. And then it was too depressing. The presentation she uses is nice, but she's too... I don't know, sadness inducing.

Personally, I feel like her poems are way too simplistic. Her poems have no nuance at all, and a lot of them read more like a contrived form of prose than actual poems. They just make you feel emo, but they don't make you think about why you feel emo.

Agreed. Her poems do not promote introspection. But I must admit that I do find her presentation (the fonts she uses and the art used for her poems) nice. The poetry however? Eh.

Then again, unlike me, she's published so she must be appealing to some or must be doing something right to have the following she does.
