That does not mean the Brotherhood is a puppet of the Institute. Especially since Danse is not in charge, Maxson is and he is not a synth (which is evident when you kill him if you go against the brotherhood and check his body), same with other key brotherhood figures in 4 such as Kells, Teagan and Quinlan. If the Brotherhood was a puppet im pretty sure the Institute would not have them come to wipe them out.

Keep in mind, if we didn't have confirmation that Danse is a Synth (i.e if you kill him), I'd say the whole "Danse is a synth" subplot is really just an Institute ploy to bring discord in the Brothrehood's ranks by eliminating their only useful field operator.

The fact that no synth components appear in the inventory doesn't mean that one didn't carry out the slicing and dicing to look for it. It just get weirder the more you think about it.

I really respect the narrative conundrum added in Far Harbor that opens up the possibility of the Sole Survivor being a Synth. That really opened up the possibility for some interesting character exploration and world building so of course they didn't follow up on it.

I really respect the narrative conundrum added in Far Harbor that opens up the possibility of the Sole Survivor being a Synth. That really opened up the possibility for some interesting character exploration and world building so of course they didn't follow up on it.

I'm pretty swayed by Joseph Anderson's argument that the Sole Survivor isn't a synth but should have been. Given how Shaun doesn't remotely give a fuck about synths, except his deathbed revelation about that one synth of himself as a child, it doesn't make any sense that he would create a synth of his parent and have them take over the Institute. It super doesn't make sense that the Sole Survivor would be allowed to destroy the Institute when at any point someone there could read off your deactivation code.

But if you rewrite the Institute so that Shaun, rather than being the sole dictator, is just the head of the synth department, and harbours synth rights sympathies, then it could have been a great twist to have the Sole Survivor be a synth. It could have been a plot by Shaun and the other pro-synth people to prove to the rest of the Institute that synths can be real people too by having the Sole Survivor come in and win everyone over before revealing that they're a synth.
