Because he thought it would make the quandary of the side quest interesting. I killed him immediately after the quest was over. Did that idiot seriously think I was going to leave him alive after everything was said and done? That guy is the worst cultist in this history of cults. I probably just did the Cult a favor by culling him.

You can't travel in peace anymore, there are just enough pirates roaming the waters that will force you to sail an entire kilometer around if you don't want to enter a catastrophic fight. 99 times out of 100 naval battles, you're just going to fucking die because it doesn't matter how much HP and armor you have, doesn't matter if you brace at every opportunity, you're just fucking done. And if one of those ships happens to be one of the small, fast types, there's no escape. None. At all. I've been doing my best to improve my ship whenever I can afford the absolutely outrageous costs, and yet, the upgrades are so meaningless that they may as well not exist at all.
The entire naval gameplay is EXTREMELY bad. It makes me want to avoid sailing at all costs. Hands down the worst part of what is otherwise an excellent game.

Is it as bad as when you’re trying to sail anywhere in Skellige in The Witcher 3 and you can’t go anywhere without being bombarded by a dozen harpies or sirens?
