It isn't a totally terrible engine though. Games like Ori And the Blind Forest, Hearthstone, and Cuphead were made with Unity, same as the ten-thousand low quality asset flips on Steam or the Google Store.

It's mostly a case of the engine being powerful, but also very accessible, so while it is possible to make great games with enough know-how and effort, it's also easy to just cobble together crap and toss it out.

I love it. Campaign is great and I’ve gotten a lot of replay value out of it.

Your appreciation of the storyline probably depends on how many other Ace Combat games you’ve played. It’s loaded with references and fan service.

Squadron mechanics from previous games are completely gone. You have wingmen, but don’t expect them to ever do anything.

Multiplayer is fun. It got old for me because there’s only a few maps and two game modes, but it’s entertaining for awhile.

I think the DLC is worth it. The three planes are all mechanically interesting, and the Hunt for Red October missions are all fun and very replayable.
TG me about my avatars for useless trivia.

A very good link right here.

It's very good, on the same level as the PS2 ACs. It's principally a single player game with a tacked on (and by this point, mostly dead) multiplayer component, so that's always going to affect replay-ability, but regardless of that I've still managed to put 180 hours into the game. The DLC is very content-light and generally not worth the price.

On the turn-based tactics front, I've recently gone back to Battletech, which would be a fantastic game if Unity wasn't a garbage game engine.

Unity is actually quite a good game engine. I can attest to that from my professional work. Not allowed to say much more sadly. But that does not mean that everything else they've piled up on top of it is equally good.

People seem too eager to blame the engine rather than the game company, like with the poor Creation Engine being the scapegoat for Bethesda's latest glitch ridden mess. Even though Bethesda has a history of not being able to fix their games properly for decades.

The number of unfixed bugs in F3 for example is shocking.

Absolutely none of the problems were addressed in Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition either. I had to reload near the start of the game because there was a glitch in the first hour that I started playing where my character was stuck in perpetual limbo unable to take her test. New Vegas was much more stable, while there were problems in some areas, I've never had a problem at the start, despite Obsidian Entertainment using the exact same engine.

There are lots of quests that are just unfinishable because either the quest script has borked, an item or character just never triggers, or there is a "quest trap" whereby completing one unrelated quest unintentionally locks the player out of being able to complete the other quest, usually because there is some shared code or asset that gets fucked up.

Skyrim still had bad bugs they didn't fix ,which were still there when you put out SSE so i don't think they will learn.

I might check out AC7's DLC if I remember to, but boy will I be rusty.

It should fit the bill for that, AC7 is fairly simple game that's pretty easy for new people to jump into. Though, depending on what you bought, you might need to use a controller emulator. I know they expanded AC7's stick support list, but I think it's still somewhat limited. idk, I only ever played it with a PS3 controller.

I started a new playthrough of Disco Elysium, as it happens, with the physique/motorics archetype. The bantz being had are absolutely mad. I kicked the shit out of Measurehead and it was awesome, get fucked you giant racist. My attempts to convince the bookstore lady to let me into the Doomed Economic Area were atrocious so I just smashed the fucking door down.

2 games from 2009. With the rationale of "It was released in 2009, but became popular in 2010".

So I just read the Penny Arcade webcomic, from which I learned that Puma now offers a gaming shoe, because it is well known that the e-sports industry was suffering immensely from the lack of optimalized footwear. These truly are ridiculous times.

Congratulations on finding a game where it actually might be somewhat relevant, even though regular sport shoes would work just as well. It remains to be seen what exactly is the added value of gaming footwear when participating in a Starcraft or Overwatch tournament. Perhaps it neutralizes bodily odours better than other shoes?
