It will most likely be a good game, but people need to stop expecting the impossible.

Maybe the game companies just need to start doing the impossible! How hard can it be?

Or they could just stop making hype and promises they can't keep.

Always a good idea, yes. But often times it is gamers, or audiences in general, who hype themselves up.

Will the extreme idolization of CDPR finally end?

This could be history in the making here.

I agree with you, but it is a bit different. At least Cyberpunk 2077 seems like it's going to be a complete game and the developers are open about issues and problems the game is having, No Man's Sky just had the main designer constantly make promises of new features and activities without any proof of those things actually happening (Like how there was supposed to be space diplomacy, or other players/NPC's flying around every now and again, or an actual ending, etc...).

It is probably gonna be a dumpster fire on release, but it's not gonna be as bad as No Man's Sky.

What hype around cyberpunk has CDPR drummed up really? Other than trailers, they haven't gone to NMS levels, and I'm not saying it's not going to happen because it's possible, but they haven't. As much as publishers, journalists, and even the developers push hype trains down the rails, gamers are just as, if not more, responsible for these things. I'm guilty of it, we all are, a game we want in a genre we've been wanting is on the horizon and we get pumped, but few gamers stop and think "this is just some prerendered shit, nothing to get worked up about."

They're a good studio, they tell stories like Black Isle, Bioware, or Troika in their prime (or when they existed). It should be fine to expect them to continue making work at the quality that they do but at the end of the day they're just people with a budget, ya know? CP2020 has the devs and pedigree to be amazing, but calling it GOTY (which it certainly could be barring an Outer Wilds esque indie darling) is dumb.

No, this is just a minor hiccup. 2077 will come out and be great.

I mean NOW No Man's Sky is a lot more like what it was supposed to. I honestly think Sony is at fault in a lot of ways for rushing it out.

I think I'm in the minority when I say I have really no opinion whatsoever of CDPR or their games, and I'm not looking forward to Cyberpunk either way. Felt the same way with Witcher. Not that I dislike their games, or anything. I've just never played them, and I've never really had a history with CDPR, so I just have no interest in their games.

I'm more interested in Destiny 2's upcoming expansion and the new Warframe updates than anything.

I've always called out CD project ded as being an overhyped studio. The best thing they've ever done, by a wide margin, was make GOG.

In an industry were the norm is EA, Bethesda, and Activision-Blizzard, you're trying to demonise "Free DLC and let's make GOG" CD Projekt?

I wrote a long winded breakdown talking about how a fairly decent company isn't bad but fanboys over hype it. Get ride of it because it was written at 2 in the morning, wasn't interesting, and read like fanboy crap. I end up cutting everything aside from the other companies bit and then accidentally leave the word demonise which was in reference to something else. Saying that you where "hating on" the company would have probably been a better choice of words by my part but I suspect I'd of still woken up to being called an illiterate fanboy of a company who's games I don't play.

A company needs to manage its customers expectations. This means both creating hype when it is warranted and shutting it down when it isn't. When you have millions of dollars on the line and potentially your reputation and company to loose inaction is an action in its own right.

When i was referring to No Mans Sky i meant more in the sense of how fans are going to react to the game, i.e raging like fuck, not that the game itself will be like No Mans Sky.

CDPR has barely been doing anything to push Hype tho, in comparison to some companies they barely show off anything about the game, most of the main gameplay stuff has been shown behind doors, it is the fans who have been drumming up the Hype Train

And since gamers are a special kind of stupid, when they're inevitably disappointed, they'll like bitch and complain and say they overhyped it, when the only ones overhyping it are themselves. Because the gaming community has become pathetically toxic.
