Found it

So fellas. Yesterday I have bought XCOM: Enemy Unknown with the Enemy Within DLC since I have wanted game for a looong time, especially because of long war. Now I do wonder a few things about the game.

How do I correctly use snipers? If I put them on the highground I fear that they aren't involved in the firefight with the rest of the squad. If let them go with the squad, the get too close for their rifles to be really effective. If I leave them all the way back, I feel like they are too exposed.

Should I play vanilla first or can I install Long War as soon as possible?

Are there any viable Assault builds that are compatable with normal rifles?

Speaking as someone who played alot of Xcom Enemy Unknown:

1. Put them in the high ground and at the back of the team. But not too far back.

Good perks for an MLG Sniper build:

Squadsight, Damn Good Ground, Disabling Shot, Opportunist and, In The Zone.

Useing these perks you will now have the most dank MLG sniper in the world. He will 360 no scope the alien threat.

(But srsly those are the best perks in the game for the sniper)

2. Vanilla then long war.

Be warned, long war is extremely hard.

3. Not that I'm aware off.

May RNG make your shots true.

Alright then. Also, I have another problem: I never see a chance to flank. The mobility of my soldiers suck ass and I can only get into a good position whne I double time it, which then results in the aliens moving again. And how do I know when it's a good time to bring rookies on a mission?

You should only flank with your Assault classes. Run and Gun is a very useful tool.

Rest of your squad should also be near by and in full cover if possible.

When a one of your main solders is wounded and the rest of the squad are your main solders.

Ignore Dr. Vahlen's whining, use explosives liberally so that they rank up fast.

At this point, I'm not going to talk about politics on CoD or BFV, or any games. It's all overblown, anyway.

With that said, the amount of DLCs and extra costs are still just as bad, I assume? I'm not surprised by CoD anymore, but taking out campaign just feels wrong. Granted, not all of the stories and games stick, but heck, even Advanced Warfare and BO2 have some good storyline.

Well, I too didn't really care about most CoD campaigns, but taking it out really feels like admitting they're just going for the lowest effort possible. Without the campaign you're just...yet another multiplayer shooter.

Yep, and yep! My favorite is still CoD: WaW. That game really feels like you're in a middle of a huge firefight, and where no amount of wishful thinking will help you if you decided to go solo.

Snipers are crap until you get them to corporal and give them the squadsight ability. Once you get them to that point, they can be left to highground and can fire from pretty much infinite range at any target you can see on the map.

Play vanilla first, it'll let you get a feel for how the game works. Long War is brutal enough that you probably don't want to have to put up with it and learning the game at the same time.

The Batavia wrote:Are there any viable Assault builds that are compatable with normal rifles?

Sure are. Aggression + Lightning Reflexes + Bring Em On + Killer Instinct will get you a pretty heavy mid-range flanker. Throw Flush on there for some utility in situations in which you can't flank and you'll have a decent all-around unit.

Thank you!
The reason I asked the long war question is because that's actually the most XCOM content I've watched and I like the amount of extra layers have been added (For example: the extra classes)

Don't get me wrong, Long War is great and is the only reason I have approaching 1000 hours in XCOM:EU. But to someone who is jumping into XCOM:EU for the first time, the difficulty spike that comes with Long War might be a little bit much.

Hell, even with campaigns like in the newer games, that might not be as good, a lot of people still seem to play the campaigns, and then there are a surprising amount of players who only play that, since they still don't have internet (it's not that uncommon, at least in rural areas.)

Cutting single-player just fucks those people over.

Then again, even people with internet are sort of fucked, what with the "buy the special edition or you don't get any future DLC" thing that Activision is doing with BO4.

(Underline mine)
Bingo. A person who buys for the single player experience will likely fall into one of three catagories:
-only make a single purchase for the base game at full price
-wait for it to go on sale to save money on DLC they never really spend much time playing
-get it used and maybe bother with multiplayer later.

All three of those aren't generating a constant stream of sales, they aren't a service. see, losing the people who only play for the single player is probably not even a loss, or worst case it's one they can almost immediately recover from, since most people only play the campaign once or twice and then go to multiplayer, if they ever play it at all.

I don't think they're going to lose on this decision, they figured out how to make their money and they've all but outright told people who don't like it to fuck off.
Vaguely a pessimist, certainly an absurdist, unironically an antinatalist.

Not having that problem so far, but it might be because of the newer players at the moment.

Also looked at the gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077. Definitely going to buy it on Steam if it is coming out on PC.

The very idea of exploring a futuristic open world and customising just sold me, and I already missed out on the Fallout popularity back then. Also be sure I want to explore a futuristic living city, not so much on the wastelands.
