...in Half Life Alyx, I can give my own (likely) explanation based on the lore:

The Combine has informants in the population of City 17. I think the G-Man was conducting one of his visits that he does with certain characters, the ones where he subtly pulls the strings in various directions. The G-Man was in a building in City 17 where he was visiting someone to do aforementioned string pulling. An informant spotted him and recognised him and informed the Combine. The Combine, based on the lore, has been aware of the existence of the G-Man for some time, and is aware that the Vortigaunts energy, "Vortessence", has the ability to disrupt or stop the G-Man's dimensional, spatial, and temporal control (in the form of teleportation) that he uses to carry out his work (as shown in Episode 1 when the Vortigaunts are able to stop G-Man from moving).

The Combine knew that in the event of a conventional raid that the G-Man would just transport out of there before they could capture him. The Combine likely used enslaved Vortigaunts in a very fast raid on the building that the G-Man was in, surrounding the building with Vortigaunts to use the Vortessence to disrupt the dimensional, spatial, and temporal constants of the building, preventing the G-Man from teleporting out of there. Of course having Vortigaunts constantly using the Vortessence on the building wasn't a permanent fix, so the Combine quickly constructed a Vault around the building, encasing the building inside.

The Combine was then able to separate the room that the G-Man was in from the rest of the building, so that they could imprison him long term in a specially designed capsule. However, keeping him imprisoned in that capsule relied upon keeping him and the entire environment around him in a permanent state of dimensional, spatial, and temporal flux, hence why the interior of the Vault has some very bizarre dimensional, spatial, and temporal abnormalities in it (the upside down/mirrored rooms, people frozen in time as a ghost image, etc). They put Vortigaunts into some devices that would provide the Vortessence required to keep those conditions inside the Vault going almost indefinitely.

What they did ,when did that happen ?

Before they built the Citadel in City 17, so several years prior to the events of HL2.

Just got the car section of Half Life 2 Episode 2, and forgot how much of a pain in the balls that gnome achievement is in this section.

Alright mr Gnome, prepare to be Yeeted something fierce on multiple occasions to safe spots so i can drive more than 1mph without risking you going tumbling out the car every five seconds.

Ive been doing achievement runs on Halflife 2 and its expansions, got all of them in Half Life 2 and Episode 1 in a single run each (bar the flushed achievement), but ive missed one here in Episode 2 so will have to dart back and do that and any others i may miss once im done.

You know it took them six years until Warband came to consoles? By the time Bannerlord is on consoles Hell will have frozen over. Either that or they're probably waiting until the next generation comes out so they don't end up wasting their time developing it for the current generation.

Also why would you want to play them on console? I understand if you don't have a good PC, but playing vanilla is literally the most boring M&B experience imaginable. Mods is where it's at.

Honestly the most frustrating Orange Box achievement I went for was the one for beating Ravenholm without ever firing a gun.

Did not want to try all of Episode 1 that way.

That one was not that bad for me, just kept carrying saw blades with me, and following a guide on steam i found out you could cheese the fight where you wait for the lift to come over the fence (where you have to fight a bunch of fast zombies). If you close the door to the building that leads up to that lift, then activate it and jump back down and go in through the door again (keeping it closed) you can just wait and the zombies stay on the ground, then hop on the lift when it shows up.

Episode 1 was also not that bad, though i did die a lot because of it as i was using Alyx to kill most stuff when i didnt have props lying around.

Honestly it’s been a long time since I’ve been willing to grind out individual achievements. With Game Pass and Xbox sales, I prefer to go through chunks of easy achievements worth a few hundred gamerscore from the games I play to get my total score up. More efficient that way.
