To be fair, you're not there to goof around, I guess, but at the same time, they should at least... Not make it this big dumb event about something that's supposed to be about concentration and skill.
It's like streaming the Olympics, except the commentators sit right next to the Olympians, or, more accurately, like if they sat right next to FGC competitors. Maybe they should have commentators or something.
It still doesn't make a lot of sense to me, though. Most people watch speedrunners because they're entertaining on top of being really good at a game. Treating speedrunning like it's some serious, professional sport that demands one not have fun just seems more cringey to me than anything.
Though, I find the professional/serious speedrunning community in general kind of lulzy, similar to the competitive Smash community.
Eh, apparently enough people enjoy watching "serious" speedrunning that they're pretty successful despite it being, IMO, dreadfully boring.
Besides, it's been proven time and time again you don't have to be good at the game to either get people to watch your content or to enjoy it.
See: The Super Best Friends, Game Grumps, OneyPlays, PewDiePie, and Little Z as positive examples, and DarkSydePhil, LowTierGod, and ChibiNekoDemyx for negative examples.
