PDOX Games VIII: Communism Will Win

My current GoT game is just, very depressing. Lord Duncan fights for Joffrey, until the little shit kills his betrothed, Sansa, and then he switches over to Stannis and helps him win the throne, and put down a number of rebellions as well as fight off Aegon's invasion. Then, to reward his good service, Stannis burns Duncan's wife Myrcella alive. After a vengeful rampage in which he won independence and slaughtered almost all of Stannis's family, he's spent about a decade just sitting in his castle, a sullen shadow of a man, while the Seven Kingdoms collapse around him. I like to imagine that history will look back on Lord Duncan as the man whose sex life destroyed the Seven Kingdoms.

Reach, you should download the no end date mod and restore Rome as the Byzantines at the last start date.

I'd rather make Byzantium sexy than restore Rome, tbh.

I also hate that start date purely because it's the laggiest of them all. I'll need a new comp before I try to play it again. I think I do have that mod in my favorites, somewhere.

I'm curious about which games appeal the least to people. I've played them all, and there's a story behind the ones I like the least. I straight up hate EUIV (and the people making it) these days, but it actually won't be my choice. It still has appeal, if certain things would just get fixed by a competent dev team. Stellaris has been a rough ride, pre-2.2 Stellaris just wasn't a game for me, despite all my attempts to keep trying. But that changed. And then there's HoI4. The game I'll be voting for. Played it. Enjoyed it. Had fun with it. But I just can't stand the concept of "world war". There's no getting around being forced to go overseas, there are no conditional peaces. I simply do not like that sort of gameplay style. Out of all of the games, I've very simply learned, with no ill will, that HoI4's not for me.

Haven't played HoI3, but between the games I have, HoI4 was the one I liked the least. Partially because I never managed to figure it out.

Is it just me or is the HOI4 production system ever more easy to abuse in each version. Like, I used to actually run out of gear. Now, I am continually swimming in it. Last game I was like 200K in the plus in infantry equipment and at least 5K per tank and aircraft type go unusued because there are not enough airfields in the world for me to deploy them on.

As a bi-product of how young my characters in this muslim campaign have been dying, my current sultan's first wife is the sister of his grandfather, my first character.

So currently I'm playing as Æthelfrith of England, son of Offa, as I finally got a legitimate son, and well, little Albert was dealt with accordingly. I've taken most of Wales for myself, and placing it under the rule of unlanded Anglo-Saxon lords.

Over in Eire, the High Chief of Meath has proclaimed himself to be King of the Eire, to which many Irish lords refuse to entertain. Up north in Pictland, the King has been losing his borderlands to the invading Irishmen around Strathclyde, which I quickly snapped up and gave to a loyal Pict at my court, who now governs both Lothian and Galloway, effectively being my March.

However, thus far the most interesting bit is that Charlemagne died before becoming Charlemagne. Apparently got killed in battle against the King of the Lombards and as such Neustria exploded into a bunch of tiny realms. I managed to snatch Saxony by marrying a female claimant and having our one and only son be the one who will inherit both England and Saxony.

Maybe I'll go farther and form the Holy Roman Empire, but idk. I just want my current dude to die already so his son can inherit England, because my wife was deposed by Germanic Pagans in favour of my, also Chalcedonian, son who just got the throne early.

From there, I think I'll Holy War around the Baltics, Scandinavia, and into Poland for a bit. Maybe I'll March west and form the HRE with the Anglo Saxons of England at the helm, idk.
