I think they actually tweaked things to be less harsh recently. I had a good time playing a Satanist character during the Romuva game I had relatively recently, first time in quite a long time because I've known how bad it can get. Just played it patiently and methodically and I didn't get anything I didn't deserve.

But it's just not fun. Getting bad traits, having your characters die or become useless. That's not enjoyable at all. If I go down the path of zany magical shenanigance I want to have fun doing it and that pretty much means being an evil wizard overlord of power and evil on a power trip. Not deliberately playing my self into a crippled blind leper with cancer.

I wish there was a mod that made satanism actually fun.


They did the same thing with immortality. For no good reason the game just starts throwing penalties at you until everyone hates you AND your characters always end up insane. Every single time.

If you want to play a game as a ridiculously unbalanced super-character, there are mods for that. Personally I prefer it when devs balance their shit.
