The tiny outliner mod is a lifesaver but once you get more than ten planets even it's not near enough.
If I were making a mod to fix it, I'd add three things:
1) A job queue that lets you determine what jobs new pops are assigned to (as it stands, most of my unemployment issues come from wanting to have a very specific ratio of amenity workers vs. other workers, and I have to disable a lot of jobs to get pops working the jobs I want - I don't need +15 amenities if it means you're abandoning the mines in the middle of a mineral crisis).
2) An icon for "at max housing/job capacity" (i.e. you're exactly at capacity and you probably need to build more stuff before getting more pops).
3) A notification bubble at the top of the screen that gives you the same information as the icons on the outliner and that flashes whenever an additional planet has that issue.
None of this would necessarily reduce micromanagement, but it would make you feel more like an administrator and less like a galactic babysitter.
And as a largely unrelated point, I'd like to make it so that building a specific kind of robot gives no penalties to machine empires. It's completely fine for a typical star empire to face growth penalties from showing that much species favoritism, but I don't see any reason that robots should take a serious production hit from choosing to assemble miner bots instead of research bots once its labs are at capacity.
