In your experience playing I:R is it worth buying? I'm divided on whether I'm going to get it or not.

The only essential DLCs, in my opinion, are Way of Life, ToG, and Holy Fury. Way of Life for the focuses, ToG for 867 and pagans, and Holy Fury for even better paganism, bloodlines, swaying/antagonizing, etc and etc. Everything else is very subjective.

By the sound of it you should wait a month or two for the patches to come in. Or wait for 2.0 to rebuild the entire game.

Speaking of which, I've actually put my antiquity Sparta game on hold until they get the stuttering fix out. I think this is the first time I've actually come close to having an unplayable experience and I HATE the use of the word "unplayable" these days. Unlike most people, I'm patient and chill about the issue, these issues are always the fastest to get fixed.

I'm reckoning that I will try the base game first and just using my imagination for the portraits. As long as I can get the custom names going.

Weeew, with holidays nearing, someone is going to be sucked into the world of Paradox Games.

Oh yeah for custom houses you need the ruler creater dlc, but its only a few pounds, well... whatever that would translate to singapore dollars. But its a nice little thing to have.

To be fair, if you don't mind doing some minor modding, it's fairly easy to add new characters and houses.

The only thing I don't like about Character Designer in CK2 is that you start in a family of 1 unless you use Sketchy's to join a dynasty and even then its pretty useless. Being in a family of one means for a very long and boring game unless you want to be immortal or rp something specific.

Yes but aside from marriage these are bad options because your children do not start off with traits so if you're a Sayyid your spawned children will not be, nor will they have a chance at having genetic traits like strong or imbecile. And regardless of how old you are your children will always be at the minimum age possible so if you are 35 with 3 kids they will be 0, 1, and 2 years old.

So yeah Ruler designer is bad.

Very bad. Who ever thought it was a good idea to give us wide and open customization options but than prevent us from actually using them by adding an age cost should reexamine his carrier as a game designer.

One time I added the trait celibate, and gave myself one kid. I had a solid amazing character. Then my kid died. One of the fastest games I ever had.

Well, I guess it cant be helped. He’s just currently the top dog in northern England. So I guess, Ill have to ally with the southern tribes to distract him from heading north. Perhaps a deal with the strongest doomstack army Teaxalia would remedy things.

You can build up some pretty impressive alliance webs in I:R.
Trade off is that they’re pretty flimsy. But handy for if you need them just for a quick war given there’s no favour mechanic like in EU4

As I’m sure we’re all well aware, there is a point at which you can no longer develop the game and must prepare it for release.

And if that means the game is unfinished, feature bare or just not fun people will complain and not buy it. That's just the way it goes.

TBH if you buy a game nowadays the day it was released, you're basically asking to be let down. Some games now seem to still be under production for months after they're released.
