Okay so a recap of my first VicII game:

First of all I want to say that I like it. Very cool game, very interesting, very fun. I started off as the USA by recommendation and I have to say it's an excellent starting point because the sheer potential you have is totally insane. I don't know how, but I completely avoided the Civil War despite hammering down hard against the Pro-Slavery crowd and even outright outlawing slavery. Maybe I just got lucky? Who knows, really. Tbh I barely had any idea of what I was doing so I just kinda winged it and didn't do that bad either. I saved Texas and expanded all the way to Cascadia. I industrialized fairly quickly and never had to deal with any serious threat at all. Allied with Central America (who lost El Salvador to nationalist rebels) and kept Liberia as my little puppet state. Got on Britain's good side though I did end up having to abandon my attempts to colonize British Columbia. I won 2-3 tug-of-war matches trying to colonize the unoccupied territories between me and Mexico. I built up a fairly large army and then prepared to Manifest Destiny myself across Mexico's northern territories, but fucking Britain had to intervene on their behalf because I was beating their numerically superior army's ass.

Honestly Britain just seems overpowered because it seems like they were involved in fucking everything that went on in the world. I ended up quitting the game because of their interference, which just pissed me off because now it was my numerically superior army getting stomped in my own territory. Before I quit I noticed they had like 199 influence over Mexico, which is probably why they got involved but I have honest to god no idea how they got it so high so quickly. Last I checked it was like 30 or something? Total bullshit; mind your own business, you stuck-up islanders.

Oh, and the Democratic party never lost an election. Somehow. I'm assuming it's because I was being rather populist. Anyway, I've learned some things from this experience:

1. Forts are totally useless

2. Fuck Britain

3. Always check the relations tab before you declare war

4. Always make sure you're militarily stronger than all your neighbors combined at the first opportunity

I don't remember the exact year, it was sometime in the 1860s.

Well, for a little while at least. Hail Albion, the new republic.

That was a good session. After I'd taken most of the south, I was able to steamroll the remaining tribes.
The barbarians weren't quite an issue, as once I'd taken the Scottish cost I was able to spam Civilisation and neutralise them.
Took a little while to colonise the Emerald Isle. It takes some crazy stupid amounts of Civil and Oratory power, and a fair bit of micro moving pops around. No achievement for this as you need to do it in 50 years (God knows how you;d manage that) but I picked up a couple of basic ones related to tribes and civilisation, so that's something.

My goal for this run is basically done now, but I might stick around for a while, either consolidate, converting all the tribesmen, or maybe look to take land in the mainland.

The tribal chief's armies get crazy stupid big later on. It's a damn good job I don't have to pay for them (either in gold or manpower) cause those things would bankrupt me sharpish.

My guess for the 50 years would be to be that little Irish country or one of the Scots bordering ireland by sea, and unite Albion while using your capital to colonize ireland. Or maybe don't do any inventions and use all civic power to colonize.

Each invention is 4 pops moved. For two inventions, that's basically a front for colonialism opened up.

It mentions perfidy, so probably truce breaking involved too.

With 50 years, at 5 civic power per month (Fairly modest) you get 3000 civic power.

That's around 120 pop movements.

If you decentralize and shift to a migratory tribe you might be able to gimmick it a little better by abusing migration mechanics and simply shifting your pops around that way, since that splits the cost between civic and oratory and also allows you to open up random holes in Albion proper more likely to be immediately bordering population centers. By turning migratory you might also have a bit of an easier time conquering the place.

So like, all the provinces bordering London you can shift the pops over to Ireland, and use London to repopulate the area around london. Rinse/repeat for other population centers. If you're migratory you also get the migratory units, but that throws away pops I think, still viable for a rapid conquest though I think. Also, i'm pretty sure you then get the raiding ability, so you can pillage the mainland with migratory armies for slaves, and use those slaves to repopulate the area you sent to migrate.

Depopulate the area around london for about 30 units, use those 30 units to pillage and raid and get 50 slaves, net profit. Just move the migratory army back before it wipes completely and you're good. (Doesn't matter if it was 10,000 and is now 1,000, because you only need to settle that 1,000 in an Irish province and then boom, its yours.).

-----

After my Saxonia game i'll try Byzantium again. Lots of achievements there;

City of the worlds desire (15 trade routes in Byzantium), Hellenic League (Unite greece as a republic), Envy of the world (100 civilization in a city.).

My initial Byzantium runs have the problem of Thrace and Macedon being allies. Sometimes they split up, and you can take on Thrace by yourself, but Macedon is just too powerful. You either need the two of them busy and to hope you can run out the clock, or Macedon to abandon Thrace.

The thing about Victoria is that you need to make sure your target isn't in someone's SoI, and if they are you'd better be in good relations with the Sphere-owner.

That's not really inaccurate though. Especially if it happened at... well, at any time before the Great War. If the UK had prep time to concentrate troops in strategic areas around the US at least.

Oh shit, I completely forgot about that. I checked up on that mod on the very day it was expected to release. I saw people saying that it would be released within hours. I got really excited for it. And yet somehow, I clearly got severely distracted. I didn't just fail myself, I failed everyone because I meant to share the news. To make up for this failure, I'll share the major update's best patch note:

So the new Imperator: Rome feels like EU4 map painting minus the events. I mean there are events, but no where near as much as EU4 or CK2, worst off most of them are chains, so you only get a brief moment events, before not doing much at all. That is atleast for Caledonia. On the other hand, enjoying colonizing northern scotland.

Who else loved that they put Benito Mussolini on the menu screen?
