So I started an Extended Timeline EU IV game, starting as England in 927.

Goal: To conquer Europe before 2017 and thus avoid a messy brexit.
Constraint: No long term alliances with countries on the European mainland, except to get the +50 relationship bonus for vassalization (in other words, if I ally, I pretty much have to vassalize them within the year)
Constraint: Must turn anglican

So far, so good. I kicked out Denmark from Britain, conquered Scottish strathclyde (they survived in Ireland) and got half of Wales. Next step is to conquer the rest of Wales and invade Scotland (currently my allies, but they're also allied to the two remaining Welsh minors) . Then on to invade Ireland. Then probably to take on Norway and do an invasion there. Or hope for France to break and do an invasion there, which has been conquering around Western Europe.

992 now. Scotland vanquished. Half of Ireland mine. Norway looks quite big unfortunately and is well allied. Denmark looks juicier. Both have ties to a couple of the remaining Irish minors.

France still a plague, has taken over most of what constitutes Belgium, unfortunately.

My no continental ally rule is going to be painful, now that I can free up the resources to fight abroad.

Maybe Leon and Iberia are an option too.

I might go for that 150 detroyers as france achievement. I mean... why not eh.. sounds like a challenge to live long enough to do that. Just have to knock out italy and germany then build up like fuck.

The Caliph is so weak he's being eaten alive by his Muslim neighbors and my Christian vassals alike, lol. The Taid's continued success in India is a problem for me, however, as they continue to gain in power. I'm doing what I can to whack the bastards as often as possible but there's only so much I can do. Married my half-sister to a Holy Roman Prince without thinking, so I had to abandon my plan to invade Burgundy. I can't war against Germania either, because one of his shithead vassals is Holy Warring an Orthodox Duke in Scandinavia and the bastard somehow got hold my daughter who was married to said Duke's ally in that war. If I go to war I'm afraid Dickhead the Douchebag will execute her or something.

Warred Yemen for Basra and almost lost because of fucking Fars, which had about 10k troops - more than I was expecting. To make matters worse, Typhoid Fever was ravaging the whole area and screwed up my sieges thanks to attrition. Had I realize it was going to be such a deathfest I would have just raised all my levies from the start instead of just my personal levies + Varangians and the Holy Order's. I did manged to war for Jibal against the Taid and won, so I now control 5/6 of that Duchy (including sweet, sweet Esfahan). Kicked the Abbasids in the teeth once more for Axum (though they only controlled 2/3 of the provinces) after my Nobatian vassal took Blemmiya on his own (slightly impressed tbh, even if I admittedly hate it when my vassals start warring for foreign territory in order to take it for themselves). I also forced Moldavia to become my vassal, leaving only one county left before I can begin incorporating Wallachia into the Byzantine Empire's de jure territory.

Oh, and I forgot to mention last time that Syria officially became a de jure part of the Byzantine Empire.

In non-political news my wife discovered I was cucking a dynasty member and threatened my daughter-in-law with a duel unless she broke up with me. Obviously she wussed out because the AI always does.

Now I have an Invasion Casus Belli and no one to use it on till my peace treaties expire. The worst part is that my char is already graying, which means death approaches soon. Nomads are still annoying, as usual.

For real though story making and roleplaying is the best part of this game. There are times I quit after 2 characters because i became so powerful and made a good story.

So, I've decided to download and give EU4 another go. Only 3 hours on record, but I've gotten used to a lot of EU4 kind of systems in Stellaris with the recent release of 2.2.5 and the econ system in 2.2. So I'll give it another go and see how it is. Mind you, this is vanilla version

Dunno. I don't play EUIV much, it's my least favourite Paradox game.

Mostly because it never lets me fucking quit so I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del end program it.

Same here. Sunk all of the German ships in like a couple sorties and after that my navy just sat back and mined, mined, mined whilst the soviets cleaned up. Well aside from those superheavy tank divisions that were actually useful for once.

Really the problem with the naval game is that unless you are UK or America you might as well not bother. And if you are you might as well not bother either since nobody will challenge you.

I did build up quite a decent sized Red Navy in my wacky soviet game over the last week, but... i didnt do much without outside of a few battles

built all these battlcruisers and escorts and they just sat there for the most part. Baltic fleet did some serious work for a while tho against the Brits and Germans but thankfully i could go anywhere i needed to fight by land or air, or if i needed to go somewhere by sea, i tended to have troops there before the sea became a scary place.

The year is 1946. The navy speaks for it self:
9 Carriers, 30 heavy ships, 74 cruisers 232 destroyers and 37 subs. This count includes the Vangard, the aptly named Carrier Hunter torpedo cruiser and the awesome Demolisher and Black Prince class AA battlecruisers. Because aircraft need to die in a fire. Hood is still the pride of the fleet though. I ain't taking that away from her, obsolete as she is.

And yes, the AA battlecruisers did in fact hold off the entire German and Austro-Hungarian combined bomber spam. Because they are awesome.
