I've never understood why people hate Paradox and I assume that I never will.

1. It sucks to buy a game only to have it be utterly changed not a year later. Leaves you with the choice of either updating to enjoy the new stuff but loosing the game you already like or not updating and missing out. Also it bleeds you dry like an ex wife with a grudge.

2. DLC by their nature are going to be divisive. Everyone wants their pet peeve to be included and thus most people are disappointed with what ever they do chose to focus on. I for example was deeply sad by the way CK2 handled China.

3. Certain games *cough* HOI4 *cough* have a very nasty community split between the realists and sensible people and which ever they chose to please the other side erupts in range.

4. When you look back on your paradox library its incredibly disappointing to see just how little value for money the base games are compared to the "finished" product. Of course this ignores the fact they are actually good vfm compared to the industry.

Eh. It’s fine for what it is, but I’d rather play RT56 or even vanilla HOI4 with a few minor mods.

Found something interesting in the Charlemagne start date. You can form a very weird looking HRE.

Just found out that from the Charlemagne start, you can form any number of weird HREs so long as you hold at least one kingdom within the traditional Frankish Empire and are the King of Italy. As opposed to the Viking Start formation which requires you to be the Queen of Germany for... some reason.

I just formed one with Aquitaine and Italy.

Yeah, but I play Paradox to tell my own stories. If I wanted someone else's story I would play a different game. This is why I say the CK2 is the best game they ever made since the stories that come about from just unpausing the game are great.

EU4 isn't bad, but I'm not particularly good at it.

You know, I think I'm going to make an effort to break the habit with Imperator: Rome. Straight out of the gate, I wanna try to play as a medium or lesser power. Every single Paradox game, I play in the easiest and privileged positions, I need to stop that and actually make an effort to play one of these games relatively well for once.

Thinking of somebody definitely no larger than Macedon and probably no smaller than an average Hispanic/Gallic nation . . .
