I'd be fine with primogeniture which devolves into mandatory imperial elective if you get a regency or have a mad king or some other kind of stuff.

The last Byzantine Emperor "elected" by their generals was Theodosios III in 715 - 54 years before the Charlemagne start date, making it's presence in 769 onward ahistorical. At the very least they should let me designate a co-emperor, as the Byzantines did, who can succeed me whether the army likes it or not.

Somehow, despite my spymaster being competent, having a high opinion of me (+100), and most of the realm being favorable to me, I still end up assassinated and have no idea by whom. It really seems this assassination system is broken. Either that, or the Faceless Men can kill through space and mods.

Spymasters can't always save you, you can just get unlucky. Plus if there's a sufficient quantity of other people that hate your guts and have high intrigue it can get problematic.

so yesterday i got Charlemagne, Jade dragon and the Republic, and i've just been on a rampage in Ireland with the new CBs. really useful, even if you're characters a Leper. that game ended soon after the viking age began.

I mean, I have no problem with this if I can legitimize the child. I want the Borg to go far and wide. I want a fully Borg Europe. I want to reach a point where all available spouses for my heir are Borg.

I haven't made as much progress as I would like in my assimilation, but say hello to yet another entry in the "Hall of Unexpected Rulers."
The sister of my last ruler, I expected his heir to be his son. However, the electors had a feeling about this shieldmaiden, and by Odin I thank them for it.
I mean, look at that martial!

I cleaned up the Byzantine Empire with her and got an okay bloodline with a +5 PCS bonus and resilience.
However, it's only passed on in matrilineal marriages.

So...

I've got a lot of Borg Queens in my future.
