Really bothers me that the game heavily reduces the odds of getting two dynastic saints.

One game I had a relatively mediocre character who cheated on his wife to produce a son months before death and was made a Saint. Unfortunately, my lovely Dominican character who had all the seven virtues and several other redeeming qualities was not made a Saint because of the first loser.

Really ruined my roleplay with the saintly Emperor I was playing as.

Did this guy even get beatified or? (Also, it's not really that unlikely, regardless. Keep in mind, canonization is typically rare even for characters that qualify)

Orders have become especially OP since Holy Fury added saints. Getting into an Order just blasts you straight into sainthood, and it's probably the only way to efficiently stack all the variables in your favor.

Well, to be fair, that's sort of the point of monasticism. You follow a lifestyle of love, kindness, charity, etc. etc. etc., and if you don't steal their favorite relic or something stupid like that, you (GASP) become a better person.

I was really surprised when Paradox actually made saints have to be saintly: you can't be a cannibal or an adulterer or whatever and still get it.

I played a man that got beatified near the start of the game and went four hundred years without being canonized. Several AI members of my dynasty got beatified, and THEY didn't get sainthood either.

Also, the Pope excommunicated the guy that won the Children's Crusade. I intervened and asked for his reinstatement him. It was granted.

Did he get caught? How many virtues did he have? In what context was the rest of his life?

Remember that David cheated on his wife AND murdered the man he cucked. However, because of his sincere guilt and desperate drive to make things right, he was redeemed before God and the Jewry. Even today, he's the "Man After God's Own Heart", and not once did he ever turn to idolatry.

The Disciple Peter denied the Christ and is still a saint. The Apostle Paul once persecuted the Church before going on to write about half of the New Testament.

I totally agree that your guy with all seven Virtues should have been beatified, but I'm not discounting the first guy. I'd say Paradox messed up on your fantastic character, but accepting the guy that cheated on his wife is in no way unprecedented in Church history.

Have they changed it since I last played? Because all I ever got out of it is my characters getting crazy, deformed or both and generally being ruined.

I mean it still does that too, but it also helps you get rid of your enemies, quite possibly get wicked saint, and is just cool in RP.

Which part? The one where your character gets hated, ruined and generally dies young? Or the part where it's basically a mindless mana collection game that you can occasionally expend to get bonuses.

Honestly I feel the whole society system is very much dull and underworked as it's basically: click through events to get mana => spend mana on magical spell effect => repeat.

You all have sort of inspired me to do an Alfred playthrough, somehow, and though I've had some rough patches (including losing my face and a leg), luck plus planning so far is leading me towards sainthood (definite beautification). I'm slowly but surely pushing the vikings out, and I've made England. It might fall apart under my heirs though...

Not as him. His firstborn (of twins) son, Aelfgar, went through some phases in his life. First, he was super knowledgeable and became "the Wise." Then, he won a crusade, took the Holy Land, and became "the Great." Then, he forged a knightly bloodline and is presently "The White Knight." Lovely name, that one. 35 learning, thanks Benedictine.

Only cheese I committed this run was gaming initial succession to Alfred - as his brother I imprisoned and released until he went to war, abdicated, and suffered that predecessor opinion...

The Rhein was made a duchy and they most likely created a custom kingdom. As for why they're Orthodox? Most likely custom character.

Custom Kingdom formed from the Duchy of the Rhine. Married a Byzantine Princess, converted, founded secret society, eventually brought the King of Germany into it before openly adopting faith, snowballed from there.

Between that and the Byzantines and Muslim Spain both having unusually good runs, bit of a rough time to be a Catholic this game. The Pope is hanging in there though.

I'm having an amazing Catholic Game. It would be even better if my characters didn't spontaneously die pretty young (lost beautification roll of Aelfgar, now I'm playing Alfred II). RNG has been in my favor other than that, but now I rolled For Whom The Bell Tolls (death chess) at 29... I haven't had time yet to Benedict my heir into amazingness (He's already genius) and I fear a child heir might cause my empire to crumble.

EDIT: Got fucked even knowing how to play it, and lost only my secondary heir (the non genius)

Yeah Paradox seems to have fucked things up and so they always crusade for egypt. Venice tried to change it for Byzantium, but my piety (as a baby) told them to fuck off.

He never lived long enough to form a bloodline, though his son who won Jerusalem in a crusade did. Then his great-grandson won Egypt in another. The grandson died in 2 months from Death himself...

I didn't know there was a Rhenish duchy but it's got a nice CoA. Also now I want to do one of these byzantine princess runs!
