I’d like to see at least one last CK2 patch to make the mid-to-late game much more difficult, but I understand if they want to end development. It’s been a long one.

CK2 has a lot of good ideas and mechanics but it has become so bloated with them that its becoming impenetrable. Every time I start a new game I have to stop and pick the DLC I want to activate because having them all on at once just make things too much. And I was with the game since Rise of Islam. Now imagine if you were a new player just entering the game and you bought the 2.5 experience you suggest.

This said, I would love to see CK2 reworked just a bit before it dies in that I'd remove all the stupid mana mechanics. Secret societies in particular are just utterly pointless as they are just mana pools.

I dont think taking away features is a answer, but yes the mass amount of content is overwhelming. The rule settings already has the option to remove large swaths of content in the game or keep it, without deactivating dlcs or activating. I think the best thing for ck2 in dealing with its massive amount of content is to have developer made rulesets, so that a newcomer has a easier time being introduced to the game.

Wat, that's your problem.
Most users don't know how to play Paradox games their first time playing especially because the tutorials are shit. It doesn't take long to find a short simple guide that teaches you how to play. You can't blame CK2 for your problems. Disabling dlc is just too weird of a solution to even acknowledge.

I don't think Crusader Kings 2 will be replaced by a sequel anytime soon, since it hasn't been too long since they released Iron Century (Although of course we still don't know when that could happen since the last sequel we got was Hearts of Iron 4, coming after a game made in 2009). However, I kind of agree that CK2 is already a pretty well fully fledged game by now. Most of what I think the game lacks would certainly be better implemented in a new game (Mostly the relationships between characters, which I think feel a bit too underdeveloped, and the lifestyles you can choose for your own characters, which for me they soon become too repetitive after a few games).

Despite that, I'm not sure if I actually want a new Crusader Kings, seeing how Paradox is starting to create empty and underdeveloped games on purpose to later fill them with DLCs even more blatantly than it did with CK2 and EU4.

Secret societies in particular are just utterly pointless as they are just mana pools.

Secret societies are probably one of the most disappointing features that CK2 has introduced. As with lifestyles they seem to me too repetitive, except I get bored of them much faster.
