My first Ancient Relics game I played pacifist materialists, intending to just do archaeology in my own little corner. Then I saw all the archaeological sites in other empires that I couldn't get at. So I swapped to militarist materialists, intending to do war to get me that sexy archaeology. But it turns out that all the other empires finish all their archaeology before I can get to it, the bastards. I'll probably carry on with this game until the end crisis shows up and I'm definitely not able to beat it, then I'll just break out one of my old fanatic purifier empires and just fucking murder everyone to stop them learning about the past before I do.

I will turn the Roman Empire into a juggernaut of gay men married to other gay men. With lesbians married to lesbians when I can (because wow this game tries so hard to stop lesbians from doing anything other than casual relationships).

I always thought this game needed more homosexuality in it.

My wishlist for Victoria 3 when they finally get around to making it in 2048:

-The Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo
-Making settling the west as the USA something I can control more instead of vainly hoping a farmer from Philadelphia will finally decide to go settle Montana so the useless not-white people there will convert to useful white people
-More pie charts

Mine:
- Ability to restore slavery to the world
- A combat system that is actually fun.
- Actual naval combat along the lines of HOI4 that gives us actual fun like torpedo rams, ironclads and per-dreadnaughts.
- NO MANA. NOT A SINGLE POINT.
- Less pie charts and more of the CK2/HOI4 approach. (If it's not something the user can effect it's not a feature).

1- More accurate map, nations, etc.
2- Better colonization features (the idea of private companies colonizing area that eventually became colonies is something that happened in real life, but was only emulated partially in the Doctrine of Lapse in vanilla and in The UK's East India Company, the Indian Agencies, and Rupert's Land Company in HFM/HPM, but the actually important bits of colonization had no such features)
3- Better combat. The integration of actual Trench Warfare (i.e. less of a 'build a stack but not too large, throw at enemy' and more a 'you'll need to send more and more soldiers to the trenches so better plan ahead')
4- Keep the Economy, Demography, Pops, and Development, no mana please.
5- Better treaties, better diplomacy in general. Especially in Great Power shenanigans.

So, something I never quite understood, why do militarist factions despise Federations? IMO, that makes no sense. I mean, I can understand if Supremacist and Isolationist factions hated it, but MILITARIST?? Someone explain.

Because a declaration of war has to be voted on by all members.

You give away some control over your own forces, and the militarists (made up of high officers) despise other officers taking wind out of their sails.

That makes sense. I swear, some of the most frustrating moments are when you want to declare war on that one empire that absolutely despises you, but the damned pacifists in your federation keep you from wiping them off the map.
