This time it was Khazaria. Nomads are so OP that a random Khagan can run in and take over byzantium. Suddenly you'll look at Anatolia and see that there's no Byzantine Empire only a nomad Khagan who owns the title and has it secondary. Mind you this Khagan didn't inherit it from some wacky usurper of dubious lineage he straight up marched into the empire and said mine now.

It's so weird playing a grand strategy game without any sort of finance screen. I'm like the guy in those pound shop sketches who keeps asking how much things cost.

"There's no money in this game."

"So how much does this unit cost?"

"It doesn't. You just tell a factory to build it."

"Oh, so how much does a factory cost?"

"Nothing. You use factories to build the factories as well."

"Then where do I see the running costs for the factories?"

"You don't. The factories just run."

"But I can save money if I don't run them?"

"There's no money!"

So anyway. Anti-air, radar, and refineries. Are they worth building or are they one of those mechanics you get in Paradox games that you should basically never touch?

It very much depends on who you’re playing as. The USA should probably never build refineries, but Germany definitely should. Radars are pretty helpful but aren’t necessary. Anti-air is useful if you plan on fighting defensively against a superior air force.

Anyway, I declared war on guaranteed Poland on the 1st of September 1939, having of course already achieved Anschluss and taken Czechoslovakia.

I feel certain that my efforts to replicate history exactly can only end well.

There really isn't any single thing that sticks out in this I:R Diary, it's a haphazard mess. A haphazard mess of good things.

That's a bug, you can fix it by reloading the game. I once lost a 2.5k fleet* to a 500 fleet as Determined Exterminators on an Ironman game because I sent my fleet in and didn't pay attention to it (it had 5x the fleet power, so what could go wrong?)
I decided to RP a bit and not close out the task manager, deciding that it was a software glitch in my admiral subroutines - the enemy ships were mistakenly identified as friendly ships due to them being practically identical (we were both using the Reptilian ship models), resulting in our ships refusing to target them, which was patched after the fact by ordering the fleet to terminate any and all deviant warforms. We went on to capture the systems we wanted, destroying their entire fleet in the process, utterly crippling their power and leading directly to them being exterminated by the friendly neighborhood Fanatic Purifiers within a few years.

*: It was mostly corvettes and they were led by a Trickster admiral, so I only lost about a third of the fleet. If it was more than half, I'd have task managered this for sure.
