Not naturally, nope. I cheated my ass off one time to put the Merovingians in power and then swapped to him but I've never seen it just happen.

Genivaria wrote:So anyone here revive Hellenism? What's the best character to start that with?

Start in 769 as the Duke of Achaia, Hellenism still exists in your territory. Just get the province and secretly convert.

Right so I'm playing as the Duke of Achaia right now, I have all of Achaia + Athens, made both Achaia and then Athens my capital without seeing any option to secretly convert.
So now I've got my focus set to scholarship and not seeing the 'Classics' decision anywhere.
What gives?

Don't you have to be insane for that option to fire or was scholarship supposed to bypass that? I can't quite recall, but I'm pretty sure lunacy is a prereq.

Almost.
With Holy Fury.png Holy Fury, a Christian Emperor of Greek, Italian or Roman culture who restores the Roman Empire has an opportunity to restore Hellenism. In addition, If you are a non-heretical Christian, of Greek, Italian, or Roman culture, your capital is located in Southern Europe, you completely control a Hellenic Holy Site, and have chosen scholarship focus or have the Insane, Possessed, Mystic, or Scholar traits, you will have access to a new decision: Delve into Classics. When taken, this decision allows a character to go through a short event chain allowing you to secretly convert to Hellenic paganism.

Same way you play any minority religion about to be curbstomped: Falsely confess faith > swear fealty to most powerful realm > build up strength over time > create/join massive independence revolt when powerful enough > openly embrace true faith.

It might take a few characters, but with patience it can work.

Seriously what is it with nomads and their marriage eligibility? Really sick of all these pagan nomad princesses popping up every time I try to get my son married, or all these betrothal offers for Khagans and their sons the minute my daughter turns 14. I even get these when I'm nowhere near the steppes and have diplomatic range set to restricted while playing in faraway places like Southern India or Central Africa, wtf. I don't want my heir to marry some Cuman Tengri girl who may as well be a fucking peasant considering her father and his titles are worth little more than dung when compared to my multi-kingdom spanning feudal empire.

Paradox pls

Something amazing just happened.

So I tried another run as Venice, and this game is going much better than the first. I married daughter of the Doge of Amalfi and had two kids with her before she died (don't remember how): my eldest, a daughter, and my son, my successor. Later I remarried to a Lombard Princess who gave me one daughter before dying of food poisoning. I then remarried again to some random courtier in one my vassal House's courts and have had 2-3 kids with her.

So anyway, fast ward to my eldest daughter's 16 birthday. I married her to the Prince and heir of Bavaria, securing me a nice little alliance with the poor Pagan Punching Bag Kingdom. I managed to help him out a bit in wars, but you know Bavaria always gets it's shit kicked in so there's only so much I can do. Well, somehow the Kings of Bavaria and Bohemia develop some kind of rivalry. Not sure how, but I imagine it has something to do with the big scar running across the Bavarian King's face.

Well anyway, Lombardy enters into a civil war shortly after as the new king has been excommunicated and some of his vassals are trying to get my daughter's husband - the heir to the Kingdom of Bavaria - on the throne. At first I thought, sure, that suits me just fine. But then I realized something: my daughter from my marriage with the Lombard Princess has a claim on the Kingdom of Lombardy and even thought she's only 7 I have an opportunity to press it. Obviously I took it, because that just suits me even better. It's not like she can inherit a Merchant Republic anyway, since it's a boys-only club, so there's no immediate threat and definitely no downside to such an arrangement and having an Italian character as Queen just means Lombard provinces will flip faster and at the very least the Italian characters will like her, whereas both Italian and Lombard characters would hate having a foreign Bavarian on the throne.

So yeah, I saw an advantage and took it. With help from Bavaria, I was able to secure victory and depose the former King of Lombardy and cementing the Kingdom of Italy. Unfortunately my daughter, now queen, inherited her predecessor's civil war so I forged an alliance with her to help her out. The war was finally starting to tip in our favor when - out of the blue - Bohemia starts a rivalry war with Bavaria. Of course the King calls me in, and i'm down to help him as well, but the civil war is a far more pressing concern for me (obviously). So the civil war is drawing to a close and, surprisingly, OP pagans are kicking Bavaria's ass when suddenly, out of nowhere, the Bohemians and their allies sack the Bavarian capital and take my eldest daughter as a captive. She was 19 at this point and had no children, so what does the Bohemian King do? Ransom her? Keep her locked up? No. The one-eyed fuck makes her his concubine.

That pissed me off for two reasons:

1. It broke my alliance with Bavaria.
2. THAT'S MY FUCKING DAUGHTER YOU HEATHEN BASTARD!

Suffice to say I was livid. So after walloping the last of the rebels into submission, I marched toward Bavaria seeking blood as vengeance because if my daughter is going to be some barbarian's plaything then I'll take whatever opportunity I can to kick him in the nuts. Spent from in Italy, I purchased some mercs to reinforce my forces and marched into Bavaria. This dude and his allies outnumbered me greatly. +10k men on his side, give a couple hundred more. I try to out-maneuver him, pick off the smaller armies while undoing sieges. It's going well until his deathstack marches on me and, to my dismay, I could not escape in time.

BUT THEN FATE INTERVENES.

My Commander, Mayor Berardo of Jesolo, manages to slay that one-eyed prick in single-combat, thus ending the Rivalry War and allowing me to invite my daughter to my court and get her out of that tribal hellhole. I married her to some Greek Viceroy after that because she'd be safer there. Alas, the Good Mayor of Jesolo committed suicide not long after the battle but he lives on in memory with my gratitude.

So even though I lost my alliance with Bavaria, which will likely get eaten up now, I managed to prevent my daughter from being raped and secured an even more powerful alliance with Italy. Even when I lose, I still win. Deus vult heathens.

So guys, i did it.
i got lucky enough to get that immortal event chain.
with my warrior lodge marshal who had 23 martial, we got a mystic.
they were determined to be a REAL mystic, not a fake.
(note: it was the african martial mystic that i got.)
using the quicksave function, i worked my way through the challenges.
and got the immortal trait.
i'll send images soon, it's nearing midnight here, but DAMN was immortal a good trait for my first shattered world all dukes Finland game.

EDIT: forgot to mention this, but my character was 17 by the time the event fired. it's meant to happen around 30-50, not 17.
