I don't understand how there isn't an ancient Rome mod for ck2. Let me micromanage the senate, or go full Caesar and fight for the rights of the people. Also Carthage. I want to play as Carthage.

It's because CK2 represents the feudal system, not the Roman system of government.

Thing is I think you could reasonably represent the roman empire using CK2. I mean, in terms of gameplay mechanic the society was basically a merchant republic but with byzantine succession. You'd only really need to address some small nagging issues:

- Provinces and provincial governors being appointed: Provinces are basically kingdom sized titles. All you'd have to do to model them realistically is extend the current byzantine succession system to them but have the candidates be drawn from the wider imperial court. Duchies, being provincial subdivisions basically work the exact same way.
- Legions are just mercenary bands serving either the emperor or a provincial government on a permanent basis.
- Add way, way, way more prestige rewards for wining battles as a commander.

And the republic only really differs in that you don't have a single leader but two consuls (which might be impossible to mod in) and that everyone has term limits (which would make the game unplayable at reasonable speeds.) So if you were willing to give those two up you could do it as well.

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

It's finally happened! Catholicism is dead. And with that, my overall goal with the game is complete and I think I'm going to call this a done game.

Scandinavia has led this world into a new age. Once I formed the empire, the only wars I really waged were Great Holy Wars, with the notable exception of seizing Rome. Pretty much everything outside of de jure Scandinavia and England was incorporated by my relentless vassals. They really made it a nightmare to try and manage what they should and should not hold.

And so this is the world in 1115, a remarkably pleasant world to view when zoomed out. France, Austrasia, and Aquitaine are basically my "outremer" states that I've set up and diligently protected. Hispania is a mish-mash of Christian heresy and Germanism and I hate it. I've wanted to make sure they go full-Germanic, but I don't want to hurt their empire as a whole. Novgorod has been a constant for the entire game and has only just recent united the region and has a partner in Slavism, Poland. Which is annoying because I converted the Polish people to the Germanic faith peacefully ages ago before some Slavic twat made back on the throne. The African faith came so close to being reformed, but all hope ended when a Shia uprising happened in the Abdulids and they migrated east, even winning a Shi'ite jihad for the Maghreb. The Abdulids are basically the Ottoman Empire in size and there are only four guys running the entire thing, the Caliph's vassals all have, like, at least 3 kingdoms each. The Mongols hit the Urals and haven't moved an inch since, they hit some defensive pact walls and just died with no ambition. That was probably the biggest let-down of this game, narratively, I wanted them to deal with the Abbasids for me. And lastly, there was the surprise in the East, Tibet is the new dominant power that controls India these days.

Legions would work more like proper retinues.
For the republic, spread out a certain amount of land to vassals or in this case the elite, add a few sub-vassals for the slightly less elite. Elective succession would be implemented. The title of Consul would only control a select few provinces in Italy and a few loyalty regions from their commanding days. I mean Rome was a poorly protected Oligarchy a handful of families would dominate politics.

The problem is two Consuls and a system of fasces. Though typically a certain Consul would be more prominent and for CK2 a system of Prestige>Prestige for leading Consul would work.
The main problem is the lack of lineage tied to a major title. Basically it'd be very chaotic and i'm against Rome 2's every player leader is Dictator for life.

Impaled Nazarene wrote:Legions would work more like proper retinues.

Not really. A retinue isn't going to revolt and outright murder you and put their general in charge of your empire if you fail to pay them. The legions DID. Over and over again. So mechanically they work more like a mercenary company, a be it one that would require some special mechanic to keep them locked to Rome. Basically how the Varagnian guard works now.

For the republic, spread out a certain amount of land to vassals or in this case the elite, add a few sub-vassals for the slightly less elite. Elective succession would be implemented. The title of Consul would only control a select few provinces in Italy and a few loyalty regions from their commanding days. That's why I would leave the county level administration as feudal. To represent the fact that you basically don't have any control over local elites beyond assigning provincial governors.

The problem is two Consuls and a system of fasces. Though typically a certain Consul would be more prominent and for CK2 a system of Prestige>Prestige for leading Consul would work.

Yes, that would be problematic. That is why I feel that it, and one year term limits would have to be given up in terms of gameplay need.

The main problem is the lack of lineage tied to a major title. Basically it'd be very chaotic and i'm against Rome 2's every player leader is Dictator for life.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trrqslUpfdw

You can cover major lineages by having a merchant republic style family system. But I don't think you can avoid the dictator for life thing simply because of the fact that CK2 game speeds mean years last minutes at most.

Sigurd Ring is now 70 and returns to Sjaelland, capital of the Scandinavian Empire that he founded, from the Abbasid Empire after beating up a bunch of foreigners and a bear with Mjolnir (Acquired through the excessive use of plots) as a Heroic Legend. He previously founded a bloodline as a warrior-philosopher. His son Ragnar has his own bloodline for no raisin. We've been at war almost constantly in the east to conquer the Baltic kingdom of Lithuania and Novgorod through county conquests.

Pros and cons of reforming the religion right now? (Im not doing a Valkyrie run yet. I'll save that one for my Erik The Heathen achievement run.).

Going with Dogmatic, Sons of Ragnarok, ????, Hierocratic.

Do you remember the 2012 election where Mitt Romney said Russia was the biggest threat to world peace and Obama and the Democratic establishment mocked him, mere years before they began arguing they had allowed US sovereignty to be usurped on their watch by Russia and this is why the other side was unfit to govern?
That's alright, neither do they apparently.
