After another UK nil pointer, my friend who used to host Eurovision parties, has vowed never to watch it again.

I feel like anyone in the UK watching solely for how well we perform should have probably hit the door a long time ago.

I never expected the UK to do well, but nul points was not in my expectations.

I feel that the UK should take a break from the contest, and focus on other activities of the EBU. One has to remember that the EBU does other things like regulating loudness (EBU R 128) and the Rose d'Or, where the UK does pretty well.

Italy took a long break from the contest from 1998 to 2010, but didn't quit the EBU.

And if the BBC truly gave a toss about how they were doing, they would. However, in real talk, they paid probably about a single episode of a drama's worth of money to get an easy 7+ million people watching. It doesn't concern the BBC that they aren't doing well. Financially, it would probably be in their best interests if the UK never got close to winning again.

Additionally, I don't think any kind of 'we're not watching until we do better' protest will ever have weight. Especially as the people that seem to be loudest at screaming for us to quit are the rabid jingoists that never watch the bloody show anyway.
