And fantasy isn't really all that different from sci-fi once you get right down to it.

They adapted someone else's material to create that show, and it markedly declined in quality once they went off-book. And it hasn't even finished yet, so there's no guarantee they'll stick the landing.

They might both be fantasy, but they're wildly different in tone. GoT is notorious for being an adult, sexy, violent show. Star Wars has to be family friendly. GoT is gritty to the point of misanthropy, Star Wars is traditionally idealistic. And that's not even considering that they're going from TV to film.

Really, beyond "they did a fantasy and it was big", I don't see any reason for hiring them in particular. I'm not saying there couldn't be one. Like I said: I'd like to know what the thinking was. Maybe they made a great pitch.

Edit: You know who I'd love to see do a Star War? Joss Whedon. Man knows his way around a character.

Oh, please keep Whedon away. I really would prefer that Star Wars isn't Marvel-fied (of course, this has already happened since Marvel has been publishing all the new SW comics, but still).

Anyway, I do see your point. However, I don't real mind making Star Wars a bit more gritty. This was done in Rogue One and was met with mostly positive reception. Besides, the Old Republic has always been a bit more gritty than the rest of SW. I mean, just take a look at this.

Compared with what's happening now, Marvel-izing Star Wars doesn't seem like the worst idea.

Exactly what I said.

Immediately following the events of TLJ, the universe grinds to a halt. Recognising the futility of continued existence, existence itself ceases to be. Thus episode 9 will be 2 and a half hours of nothing. Silence. Deafening. Not even a screen to watch. The curtains don't open, they know better.

But couldn't Rey re-ignite existence with her Mary Sue powers?

Does your cinema have curtains? That's so quaint.

Nah, more's the pity. I was thinking more fancy premieres.

Another leader complaining about systemic inequality turns out to be influenced by an external evil force? Jesus. And people complain about Kathleen Kennedy's political agenda.

Minister Risha Loo. Subtle.

Fuck, now Anakin and Padme are doing the "You all look the same" thing. Omg, Obi-Wan, stop infecting everyone with your racism! Jar Jar even calls them out.

It's rare that I'm pleased to see Grievous in an episode. But here we are.

"General Grievous is a critical part of my plan for the Clone Wars." -- Palpatine

Uh, but, why? He appears to have literally zero strategic value.

Then Anakin gets captured, not because that's particularly interesting, but because we can't let Grievous actually get captured or killed, because Episode III exists.*sigh*

75% of this season so far has included Jar Jar. Bizarre.

Apparently that’s the least watched episode in the series.

Always hated that they gave Revan a face. The only Revan face that I acknowledge is the bald, dark-skinned avatar.

Fucking finally. At long last we may be getting Old Republic movies.

Hopefully they draw heavily on material from old Legends continuity.

The more the merrier.

Eh, I always thought Revan worked better as a woman, at least in Kotor. Though that avatar does look like Dulé Hill, so it would’ve been a better choice than the mullet guy.

I had a lot of fun with his name.

“But I’m not Revan! I’m Revan!”

The PC from KOTOR II is a woman i believe in the legends.

Everyone's hoping for Revan and I'm just sitting here appalled that my boy Darth Nihilus isn't getting the attention he deserves.

Yeah, Meetra Surik. But I always thought Revan was better as a woman and the Exile (that being Surik) as a man. The latter more due to gameplay concerns though. Brianna is better than Mical any day of the week.

Wow. I mean, generously, it's a flaccid attempt to parody the White Saviour trope. If not, it's a flaccid attempt to play the trope straight, or more likely, an unstructured load of nothing thrown together that just so happens to resemble that trope.

This is meant to be one of the best seasons? It's been six episodes of bland rubbish with an undercurrent of distasteful politics so far. Presumably there are some really good episodes coming. But why not just...not do these episodes? There are no season long plot threads, so it's not like this is essential connective tissue.

Here's hoping Krell is something more interesting than the thoroughly twatty donkey-leading-lions he appears to be.

Echo went last time, so Fives is totally going to die here. Thus will end the story of these clones begun in episode 1-05 episode 3-01 episode 1-05.
