Title helps give insight into what the next one will focus on. Right now we know next to nothing about 9 except that it will tie in all the trilogies and will be the end of the Skywalker saga.

I don't think we'll be getting much more information from the title then that tbh seeing as the movie has nowhere to go.

I'm pretty sure it's just that the title is the first thing we're likely to get. No need to make any weird leaps from "people are waiting for the title" to "Ruin Johnson's ruinousness has ruined everything".

If anything, the fact that people are desperate for any scrap of information is indication that they're interested in the next movie.

Or that previous movies have given us so little information/things to be interested in that this is just about all we have at this point.

Your response makes that pretty evident. xD

Game of Thrones Creators' Star Wars Trilogy Reportedly Set in Old Republic

Fucking finally. At long last we may be getting Old Republic movies.

Hopefully they draw heavily on material from old Legends continuity.

I'm just asking you to explain what you said. Don't really understand why you're being so difficult about it.

I think JJ Abrams set up mysteries that he didn't ultimately have answers for and, as a result, Rian Johnson came in and ignored those setups or outright answered them ( Snoke's identity, who Rey's parents were, how Kylo Ren fell to the Darkside, Luke's fate, etc. ). As a result, all we're left with in this final movie is the conflict between Rey and Kylo which, unless they do one of the biggest subversions in film, is going to end with Rey emerging victorious. Oh, and the question of who the Knights of Ren are, though that seems like it'll have little relevance to the events that have transpired thus far. Perhaps it'll help to expand on Kylo's fall a bit ( though that's being quite optimistic imo ).

I would love to know what the thinking was behind giving Benioff and Weiss their own trilogy. On the face of it, it seems absolutely batshit.

Why not? They created an extremely beloved and critically-acclaimed show.

And fantasy isn't really all that different from sci-fi once you get right down to it.

They adapted someone else's material to create that show, and it markedly declined in quality once they went off-book. And it hasn't even finished yet, so there's no guarantee they'll stick the landing.

They might both be fantasy, but they're wildly different in tone. GoT is notorious for being an adult, sexy, violent show. Star Wars has to be family friendly. GoT is gritty to the point of misanthropy, Star Wars is traditionally idealistic. And that's not even considering that they're going from TV to film.

Really, beyond "they did a fantasy and it was big", I don't see any reason for hiring them in particular. I'm not saying there couldn't be one. Like I said: I'd like to know what the thinking was. Maybe they made a great pitch.

Edit: You know who I'd love to see do a Star War? Joss Whedon. Man knows his way around a character.

It's not as if "The Force Awakens" gave us much to go on. Maybe a vague theme, but that's it.

The Last Jedi was slightly more descriptive, but still not super useful for guessing what the movie would be about, other than, you know, the last of the Jedi.

That too.
