It was good.

Could have used more action and was a bit boring at times, but was good overall.

Humor was alright and I liked Finn's story more then Ray's story.

I fail to see the "rampant SJW agenda" here.

Watched it this Tuesday

* 2,5 hour film that felt like a 1,5 hour film

* Kylo Ren has the best character development hands down. He single handedly made this film interesting. Rey is simply "ok" in comparison.

* The casino part of the film was out of place but it was still OK because of Finn's character development and it's overall message.

* Too many parallel moments with ESB, just like TFA has too many with ANH. On the other hand, the "emperor" dying prematurely was a nice surprise.

* Stop bringing up the death star in every post-prequel movie for fucks sake. What's next, death star blasters?

* The idea that the resistance aren't saints (just like the Rebels in RO) is neat. Makes them more believable.

* Phasma not being important again was the biggest let down for me. I expected her to be as important as Finn or Poe, turns out she is just part of Finn's character development. Hopefully she will make an appearance on Episode 9 because I already miss her swag armor.

* No amazing lightsaber duels on this one BUT the praetorian scene was fucking amazing plus we finally got to see them fighting, unlike the emperor's guards from the OT.

I'm no critic but I'd give this movie an 8/10. The sequel trilogy is nothing like the OT but is it's own thing and not ashamed of that.

All right, sleeping on it only made me appreciate TLJ more. One of the best films I've ever seen, and easily the best Star Wars film. Perhaps on a rewatch I'll find more problems, but at the moment basically all my issues are little worldbuilding nitpicks.

Let's kidnap Abrams so Rian Johnson has to come back and do episode IX as well.

I don't have high expectations for it at this point, though who knows, it could still be good.

My biggest problem right now is how Holdo's sacrifice was framed as heroic, but Finn's attempted sacrifice was framed as unnecessary martyrdom - even though both characters, in my opinion, were essentially performing the same task.

Although, that vacuum-of-space silence after Holdo's light speed jump into the First Order's Fleet was fucking beautiful. The whole cinema was stunned silent except for the usual gasps and "holy shit" reactions. It was just, my God, I don't even know how to put into words how much I loved that part.

Finn’s wasn’t going to do anything. He couldn’t have blown up that huge cannon.

Also Rose had a point. Finn was trying to kill something he hated. Jurassic Park lady was trying to save the resistance, or in other words she was saving something she loved. Her sacrifice was more necessary. Without it the Star Destroyers could have bombarded the base.

I’m not sure how the small ones were destroyed though. Her ship seems to have physically passed through Snoke’s ship, so I’m not sure why the small ships were also hit.

I may be late saying this but there were other Star Destroyers that were hit when the Supremacy was sliced in half.

Really? I found Finn's arc more entertaining then Ray's.

Finn had an adventure, Ray just bummed around with a very grumpy Luke for awhile.

Their arc i thought in the end was utterly pointless as they went through all of that, failed immediately and it ended up just being a RSPCA ad about not being dicks to animals and that people profit from war. Now those kind of messages are fine, i quite liked when DJ was showing the holograms of first order tech that an arms dealer had sold then it flips to an X-Wing. But i thought the arc could have been better, having it set in the fleet itself with Rose being the hacker they needed, or even having benecio play a rebel soldiers who was a hacker. Because i thought the movie ground to a halt when it showed canto bight and i found myself not caring that much.

But if you liked it to each their own, but for me its my biggest problem with the movie.

It was pointless yes, but that was beacuse that purple haired moron didn't explain vital details to the pilot. If she just took 20 seconds more to explain it to them that the ships where invisible to the first order then Finn could have just bumed around on the ship and laid low with the rest of the resistance when they got to the salt mines.

But, the purple haired moron did do something that I wanted to see in a starwars film, what would happen if you ran in to something at light speed. She's still an idiot but that redeemed her a bit.

It kills me how little appreciation she's been shown by so many fans. She's delightful.

Also, if you think about it, Finn and Rose's subplot wasn't pointless. It was unsuccessful, which is not necessarily the same thing. It did have an effect on the larger plot (making the First Order aware of the Resistance's plan to evacuate to Crait, thus leading to several of the Resistance's transports being shot down). It's not so much that it was pointless, but rather it gave an unconventional conclusion to a conventional premise (the heroes fail and make things worse for everyone).

I love Rian Johnson's work and he seems like a great guy... which is why I think he's better off doing just that spinoff trilogy. The fanbase is already hurling enough abuse at him.

Sunstruck wrote:Judging from what's on Wikipedia about the Solo movie's development, I think the movie is gonna be a mess

Honestly, I didn't want that movie to be a thing in the first place. It seems pretty pointless to try to do a "young Han Solo" spinoff when we already had three movies' worth of young Han Solo, and prequels trying to explain a character's backstory seldom end well.

I think the movie is going to be... okay. Ron Howard is a good filmmaker and I'm sure he's managed to make a decent movie out of all that mess.
