Hot take the Ewoks should have been replaced by Wookies in ROTJ. Like imagine a bunch of Wookies beating the shit out of the stormtroopers.

I think that was the original plan, but Lucas felt it wouldn’t be believable if the Wookiee homeworld was primitive given Chewbacca’s technological skill. He always wanted the Empire to be defeated by a race of primitives in the end.

I’m pretty sure the end of ROTJ was supposed to be a statement on the Vietnam War?

Yes, it was. It wasn't just the ewoks either, the rebellion also represented this to a lesser extent.

From this great article on the subject:
Back in a 1973 note on “Star Wars,” Lucas made clear which side he was rooting for in the Vietnam War: “A large technological empire going after a small group of freedom fighters.”

Lucas has said the Vietnam War was his inspiration, but I never quite got that in regards to Endor. The Viet Cong had modern Soviet made weapons. I don’t know how that turned into Ewoks.

And I personally think it should have been Wookiees. Their level of technology (they understand tech like blasters and flying vehicles but have only a limited manufacturing ability) would actually work better for a Vietnam like situation. Also Wookiees defeating Stormtroopers is a lot less ridiculous.

But alas, Wookiees wouldn’t allow for several “integral” comedic moments, like the Ewoks trying to stop the AT-ST with a rope or Wicket hitting himself in the face.

The EU has such a wealth of stories that no other fictional universe can compare too.

I’m rereading the Hand of Thrawn Duology now, some of the best Star Wars content out there.

Oh lightsaber duel:

Obi-Wan and Qui Gon vs Darth Maul (TPM)
Obi-Wan and Anakin vs Count Dooku (AOTC)
Obi-Wan vs Anakin Skywalker (ROTS)
Obi-wan vs Darth Vader (ANH)
Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader (ESB)
Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader (ROTJ)
Finn and Rey vs Kylo Ren (TFA)
Throne Room Battle (TLJ)
Rey vs Kylo Ren (Multiple fights across (TROS)
Other:

Covers all the movies and gives an "Other" option which will fill out all 10 options in the poll.

Or for Favourite movie Space/Ground battle:

Battle of Naboo (TPM)
Battle of Geonosis (ATOC)
Battle of Coruscant (ROTS)
Death Star attack (ANH)
Battle of Hoth (ESB)
Battle of Endor (ROTJ)
Battle of Starkiller Base/Or maybe battle of Maz's palace? (TFA)
Battle of Crait (TLJ)
Battle of Exegol (TROS)
Battle of Scariff (Rogue One)

But then you dont have room for an other selection.

I couldn't pick just one. Gotta pick my faves from each trilogy.

Prequel trilogy is definitely Obi-Wan vs Anakin. Master of defense VS master of offense, with the swelling music and the lava. Awesome.

Original trilogy is the Cloud City duel. Vader at his most menacing just toying with Luke all fight.

New trilogy is Rey VS Kylo 1. I liked the sloppiness of it. Guy who never finished training vs a girl who just grabbed a saber for the first time. I find it cool.

Darth Sidious v. Maul and Savage Oppress doesn't get enough praise in my view. The way this fight scene is shot and choreographed is amazing. High point of TCW I'd say.

I have a soft spot for the Anakin & Obi-Wan vs. Count Dooku duel, and the Battle of Coruscant of the same film.

Decided to more or less copy-paste Huskar's setup for the lightsaber duel poll, with one significant alteration, and flaired them up a bit for the sake of drama and making sure some of them were open-ended enough to not be movie-exclusive.

. . . and my apologies to fans of the sequel trilogy, I haven't seen those movies, so I don't really know how to flair them up all nice-like.

Oh nice. My suggestion actually got picked. it is a hard choice for me. Plenty of amazing duels. Qui Gon and Obi Wan vs Maul and Anakin vs Obi Wan are pretty high up there obviously. Vader vs Luke in Bespin was super suspenseful. And Ashoka vs Maul and Sidous vs Maul and Savage were just fucking kickass duels. But I am going to say Obi Wan vs Maul in Rebels is my favorite. Yeah it is a very quick duel and in terms of action other duels beat it, but the layers involved of complexity and emotion makes it one of the most brilliant duels in Star Wars IMO.

Dooku vs. Anakin and Obi-Wan (ft. the Pykes Syndicate), quite possibly the single most impressive lightsaber duel I've ever seen. Loosely followed by Sidious vs. Maul and Savage, also Ahsoka vs. Maul. All in TCW.

About battles, I'd say Battle of Atollon (Star Wars Rebels).

Design, either Ezra Bridger's first Lightsaber (the 'saberblaster was pretty impressive), Dooku's lightsaber, Kylo's lightsaber.

I believe I've mentioned it before, but the duel between Luke and Vader on the Death Star II is my favorite. The actual swordplay is enjoyable to watch, even if it isn't the best the series has to offer, but I really enjoy the deeper elements of the duel, the symbolism of light vs dark, the callback to Luke's vision on Dagobah and especially Luke throwing his saber away. Possibly my favorite moment in Star Wars, actually.

The Luke v Vader in RotJ is certainly the most emotional duel.

The most impressive in terms of choreography and effects is probably the Anakin v Obi-Wan duel in RotS.

Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan v Maul has the best score and is one of the most dramatic.

Personally however, Dooku's always been one of my favourite characters, and his style, especially showcased through the beginning duel in RotS is definitely a highlight.

TCW has too many good ones to count really, though I do enjoy when the showcase a lesser known Jedi, like Luminara v Ventress, or Adi Gallia v Grievous.
