It's not the OT, but PT wasn't like the OT either. Accepting this is it's own trilogy, this movie came off as better to me than the Force Awakens, as well as being good on its own.

Yeah. Your explanation is bullshit and everyone here knows it. It is a thinly veiled explanation trying to had the fact that you clearly didn't like the results of the poll, and took it down. Guess what, fans have enjoyed the movie. You're gonna have to square with that.

Okay, that's enough, people, seriously. Please stop trying to convince each other of nonsense when everything that can go unsaid can remain unsaid. Best thing people can do is utterly abandon the other thread entirely and focus on actual Star Wars talk here. Continue your conversations from that thread here. I don't want to hear anything more about thread politics, we need to move on from this and stay on target.

Went to see TLJ with the family (my second time seeing it) last night -- definitely even better on the second viewing.

Mom was absolutely gutted by Luke's death, though not as much as Han Solo's, which she is still upset over -- but then, she's had a thing for Harrison Ford since she saw the original movie in theaters at the age of ten.

Something not much mentioned about Poe and Holdo occurred to me while watching the film: the first time Poe asks her about the plans, Holdo brushes him off, presumably because all she knows of him is that he's a recently demoted captain who got a lot of people killed through bravado, she is the acting leader of the Resistance who has no obligation to divulge that level of information, danger is not yet so imminent, and he's pestering her. The second time he confronts her, however, he doesn't actually give her a chance to respond before he calls her a traitor and a coward. I initially thought the movie didn't justify Holdo withholding that information as well as it could have, but on further reflection, that assessment seems incorrect.

The second big thought is this: it occurred to me that, despite the fact that sub-light travel would not normally cause an expenditure of fuel, the cruiser is almost certainly accelerating throughout the course of the movie, which would burn fuel. How else would a chase in space like this work, after all? Normal travel is all about momentum -- once you establish a certain speed, you can turn off the thrusters and cruise, but, of course, that'd be no good for the Cruiser: if it maintained a constant speed, the First Order could accelerate and overtake them, and so it must also accelerate in order to maintain its position ahead of the First Order.

There's so much to pick apart here, it really is a work of art.

When he ended his force projection i guess, which is just after Luke disappeared on Crait. The bisection didnt do anything because he wasnt really there.

And since Luke didn't just die like a normal person, we should expect his Force Ghost in Episode IX.

As a point of inconsistency Anakin died normally but still had a Force Ghost. Just wanted to point it out.

How is that inconsistent? Yoda died normally and had a Force Ghost. Also, I still want to know what killed Luke if it wasn't the bisection or the stabbing.

Speaking of Episode IX, how do you think it will handle Carrie Fisher's death?

Things I liked about TLJ

Good humor, development between Rey and Kylo, Kylo taking control of the First Order (though I'm a bit dissapointed in the way they just killed of Snoke), the fighting scene near the end between Kylo and Luke's force projection, Holdo ramming into the First Order's fleet at lightspeed to save the Resistance (When that happend in the entire room went quiet except for a couple "wow" and "shit")

Things I didn't like abour TLJ

The plot thread with Finn and Rose going to Canto Bright (even though I do like them introducing a new character), my personal biggest issue with this is Leia. You because Carrie Fisher isn't among the living anymore, and the way they showed it in the trailer, I just figured they would have Leia die in this one, then this would get Luke out of isolation (don't ask me why, i'm not a screenwriter, just a fan), and have him join/lead the Resistance instead. And for the critisim that this movie promoting liberal/SJW ideas (which are 2 completly diffrent things btw),
if the soldiers of our villians are (by design at least) based off Nazi's, don't be suprised when the good guys are...a bit progressive i guess.

Vader didn't just disintegrate into the Force, which is what I meant.

And I'd honestly prefer she be recast rather than leave a gaping hole where her character used to be.

Im pretty sure it was the sheer strain of projecting himself using the force over such a vast distance in the way he did that killed him, you could see how badly it had an effect on him once he stopped it. Probably drained him dry.

Especially given Kylo Ren's line earlier in the film, when the force bridge is first established between him and Rey -- he knows she can't be force-projecting to him (as Luke later does) because the effort would kill her.

I'm hoping the movie opens with some kind of send-off for her, with Leia having died of old age or grief or from complications due to the thing that happened to her in The Last Jedi during the time-skip. Perhaps the film opens with the Resistance having made it to an allied planet and finally having the moment to do a funeral for those members of the original trio who are now departed -- in my head, this sequence is a visual callback to the medal ceremony at the end of A New Hope, with Chewie standing alone and forlorn, for maximum effect.

Ah. I think I just got confused because the first time Kylo and Rey did the thing I thought Kylo was actually affected somehow by the blaster. Guess it was a 'thoughtso' situation. Guess Luke meditated away.

Guess that might be it. There's a crapton of things to catch onto in the movie to remember them all.

Lucasfilm has already stated that they won't be using CGI like they did in Rogue One and, despite her family have granted permission, won't be using footage of Fisher for Episode IX.

Wouldn't be surprised. At least Chewbacca would be a relevant character then.
