Ok, so here's the 411;
I finally finished watching the Clone Wars (late to the party, I know). Absolutely phenomenal ending, left me in tears. But here's the kicker; instead of re-watching the Clone Wars to fill the clone-shaped hole in my heart, I'm actually considering watching Rebels.

I'll be honest, my first impression with Rebels wasn't that great; in the first episode I saw, the main cast bombed a parade (on Coruscant? Details are fuzzy) in an area densely populated with civilians and other unarmed noncombatants. Aside from the obvious moral qualms, I wasn't a big fan of most of the main cast aside from Hera and the Jedi guy (Kanan? Sorry I'd that's wrong).

But lately I've been hearing lots of people talking about how much they love the show, especially in the later seasons. I'm hesitant to jump into something, especially after familiarizing myself with many of its criticisms before experiencing it first hand. Figured if I wanted a more general, non-biased opinion, this was the place to go.

So, what are your guys's thoughts on Rebels? Is it actually decent, or is it just not worth the watch? For those who liked it, what did you enjoy? For those who didn't, what parts made it less than optimal? I don't care about potential spoilers, I'm just looking for a show to pass the time.

The first season is a bit ropey, but i feel it picks up a lot as the show goes on. I originally couldnt get into it, but gave it another watch when season 3 came out i think it was and i had a good time, ended up quite liking the show.

I honestly don't get this criticism. Glibly flims use the nuke trope over and over again and don't get hate for it. 40k exterminatus happens just about everytime an inquisitor gets bored/has a bad day/ just feels like destroying a planet. Why should Star wars not get to have the destroy a planet type fun glibly and 40k do?

The way the line was presented, the shots the lighting man the way that line was presented was down right awesome. Eh it showed what Ray fears. Thats good for fleshing out. Also Darth Raydar puns are now a thing.

Reusing the same old trope is bad writing. The fleet was both a very silly concept in how over the top it was and just JJ doing death star 4 but even bigger this time. The fleet is just bad writing. Simple pointless over the top bullshit that if anything just made me unable to take the movie seriously.

And yes the way in which Palpatine was introduced was kinda cool, but in a very shallow way. And Rey's fear was neither well developed and did not go anywhere so that whole plot point was fucking weak.

Again, 40k and Ghibli do that same plot point all the time. Where was the criticism of Castle in the Sky for using the same "bad guys want to get a big weapon that will fuck everything up" trope? Or when the Fire Warrior novel back in 2003 had an exterminatus in it and then in 2009 Dawn of War II also had an exterminatus in it?

Hell you could say the same thing for Ace Combat with 5 having the V2 that could blow up half of all the large cities in an entire country then haveing that plot point reused in Ace combat 0. And again with Ace combat 5 with the SOLG. And then again with Ace Combat 7 DLC with the Alicorn that was a rail gun for nukes.

The fight with her self was neat tho.

Saw a clip of it and it looks ok. Might start watching it from season 2 onwards.

Just because one fandom likes something, does not mean other fandoms have to like it. Hell, just because fans like something in one.franchise, does not mean that they'll like it in another franchise. It certainly doesn't mean they have to like it.

No it's real. And yeah it was pretty fucking dumb. But I would not let that put yourself off the show totally. It is has a lot of dumb shit but it has it's moments.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm looking for some Star Wars novelizations. I'm planning on taking a look at the Thrawn Trilogy, as well as the Ahsoka novel. What other novelizations/assorted star wars media would you guys suggest?

In fairness, the heli-sabers only make in appearance in one, maybe two episodes. I still watched it regardless and Seasons 3 and 4 definitely make up for that.

Do you understand that you can't just build a fleet out of nothing? Especially not one as large as the final orders fleet with death star lasers. Palpatine at most only has maybes some tens of thousands of cultist on a very barren looking isolated planet. To produce a fleet as that size in 30 years would require far more resources than what Palpatine has. Unless he had a starforge up his ass the final order fleet would be impossible for Palpatine to have just fucking lying around. The fleet was just lazy writing on JJ's part. A desperate attempt at creating stakes but just so fucking over the top it cannot be taken seriously.
