Also France needs to be fascist if they want to survive at the early stage. Aligned with allies and the Allies won't help you much. Aligned with Comintern is helpful, as long as Soviet has direct access to German's lands.

Also France needs to be fascist if they want to survive at the early stage. Aligned with allies and the Allies won't help you much. Aligned with Comintern is helpful, as long as Soviet has direct access to German's lands.

AI France beat down the Germans into submission with minimal effort in my (then fascist) Netherlands game. If you uncheck the historical focus thing, you can absolutely survive as democratic France. You just need a bit of luck.

Its actually not that hard as long as you embrace the Maginot and trump that bitch up with a level 10 border wall from calais to nice. It helps to try and delay your entry into the war as much as possible, preferably until after Belgium falls, giving you ample time to build up your forts and entrench. After that it doesn't matter how many divisions the Germans and Italians have, because you have fort levels to block out the fucking sun and you can bleed the Axis to death with laughably minimal losses without too much difficulty.

Also, fuck the colonies. Colony states don't count towards surrender, only core states do, so abandon all colonial territories and commit everything to the metropole, mostly in the northern front with the Germans but leave a good force in the south too. I've been surprised one to many times by Mussolini's special sauce. My advice is to build as many forts as possible manually, meaning that early and mid game until the start of the war you should be building mostly or entirely forts, not factories.

I think I found a bug. I drove this hivemind to 100% war exhaustion, but they refuse to accept my demands. I captured, like half of their systems (including most of their inhabited ones), including their capital.

What's the negative modifiers stopping you from claiming the wargoal?

Also could just accept status quo and keep what you've taken.

It ended up doing that automatically because my war exhaustion reached 100.

The only negative modifier I remember is -400 due to unconquered claims, which, yeah, to be fair, I hadn't actually invaded most of their planets, though I was working on it when I reached 100 exhaustion.

I just hid behind level 10 forts and invested heavyily in fighters. Germans could do nothing against my line.
