I've been assuming the latter largely, that we'll be back to a whole bunch of stuff in advance after Endgame

Yeah, because they were trying to replicate a dead guy. Bit of a difference between that and a CGI thing of a living actor.

I was largely joking.

Though as technology advances, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were legal battles where actors demanded money and credit from works that used computers to simulate them. Actors themselves would be like copyright protected IPs.

I think they decided announcing a full slate of movies in five year chunks was a waste of time after Inhumans became a terrible limited series and they realize the gave up the game by initially calling 3 & 4 "Infinity War 1&2". Now I think they're just introducing movies like a normal studio.

Or they're sitting on their hands because the landscape post Endgame changes and announcing the movies spoils that, with the timing of Far From Home being something that couldn't be avoided.

Why do five year plans never end up like we want them to?

It's a discussion that started way back when Fred Astaire made a vacuum cleaner ad decades after his death.

I feel like this is answered by a million cliches.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Liriena wrote:Gotta say, though: based on some of the early reactions, it sounds like the movie's early marketing was waaaaaaaaaay off. They're describing the movie as leaning heavily on the cosmic and weird side of things, for one, but there's also a lot of praise for the one character that has been barely present in trailers and ads (Talos).

Yes, this was the impression I got too. It's the reason why Cinemascore is such an interesting idea, it's practically a "was this what you were expecting measure?" and it's related to the usual issue with trailers... in some sense the RealTM movie is only experienced by people with no contact with the initial context of the film. Not the marketing. Not the word of mouth. None of it. Envy the children born today who can experience the pure MCU.

Also, sometimes, it depends what order you watch them in. People don't like Ghostbusters 2* as much but I disagree. It's a better version of the original film. The problem is most people have seen Ghostbusters in order. It was a long time before I even realised there was a Ghostbusters 1... I'm not sure how but for context it we'd taped it at whatever point. You get a similar thing, I feel, with Guardians of the Galaxy.

* They also say this with the recent film but I haven't seen that... largely because it has the worst good looking trailer I can remember watching. It just does not inspire confidence in that film. The only other trailer I remember being so bad looks bad, i.e. the one for Inhumans. I also blame Inhumans' reception on this trailer... people wanted it to be bad and interpreted everything through that prism. (Obviously, yes, this implies that I should give the new Ghostbusters a chance but that's my point... I did experience the marketing.)

As long as they stay far, far away from One More Day.

Next Spider-man film title confirmed. I can feel it.

(See also Age of Ultron for why this title wouldn't mean anything.)

Cannot think of a name wrote:People always eager to speak for the "fans."

On the other hand, I think most people agree this era was... not particularly good. Whether they tend to cite the same reasoning is less clear. Certainly, people don't like NuHumans and this is probably more indicative of the real problem, i.e. trying to make the comics look like the MCU and using the comics to respond to criticisms of the MCU that just aren't true of the comics. I mean, it's not like characters like Northstar or Anole are hugely significant in the comics but once people started noticing patterns in the MCU slate characters like them suddenly ceased to exist.* And so Jean Grey outs Iceman in what's one of the least ethical (and logical) applications of telepathy I can remember that's presented as largely a net positive.

* In Anole's case... they seem to be systematically shafting all the New X-Men characters right now so this may be conspiratorial. Certainly, when they wanted to kill Wolverine off (and how he died would've killed him with a healing factor) it was suddenly necessary to get rid of Elixir whose powers literally solved the healing factor problem. Wolverine dies. Hello Elixir!
That it Could be What it Is, Is What it Is

Stop making shit up, though. Links, or it's a God-damn lie and you know it.

I'd call the brigading going on in Captain Marvel's "want to see it" thingy on Rotten Tomatoes the very peak of dorky slacktivism... but I'm bracing myself for something even dorkier. Maybe there's gonna be a change.org petition to make the movie "non-canon" and edit her character out of Endgame.

LOL

I wonder if they’ll make changes to user reviews in the future too. It seems like Rotten Tomatoes is always at the center of “controversies” whenever new blockbusters come out, and it looks like they’re getting tired of it.
