Surprisingly agree, for lack of interest in the character

Really?

It seems like a Doctor Who rip off but without Chibnall so good (plus the whole TVA prisoner thing, but we'll just say it's a series that focusses on the Time Lords but, again, no Chibnall).

Really. One, I was never super high on Loki as a villain anyway. And two, this isn't even the Loki with all the character development. This is smary, 2012 version Loki. And his routine is gonna get old quick.

Thor!Loki was smarmy. Avengers!Loki was fun. Ragnarok!Loki was best Loki. So, I mean, still not the best version of Loki but he's probably not going to be the villain (WandaVision has shown us that the MCU lacks guts to follow through on a concept that divergent from what it usually does)... I guess the best comparison would probably be Missy with elements of drums in his head Master (I think that was the Simm version? Can't remember), though I don't recall if you liked either of those takes on the Master anyway.

Missy I liked. Simms I used to like, but then I watched some Delgado version Master and realized he was trash.

I spent my morning finally getting to Falcon And The Winter Soldier. Talk about a waste of a morning.

Dreary.
Boring.
Annoyingly fucking political. (Can I watch anything these days without hamfisted political preaching in it?)
Carly was a suck-ass villain. Basically a squatter who got pissy that after 5 years, she can no longer live rent free wherever she wants.
Sam's sister is a one-note, whiny annoyance. Same from Isiah.
Them basically spitting on Cap with all that "Blonde hair, blue eyes" talk. The guy fought literal fucking Nazis, and now they're acting like he's one of them.

Fuck this show. Waste of time that was.

Do my eyes deceive me or is that footage from The Eternals?

Also, titles for Black Panther (WAKANDA FOREVER!...with Boseman gone that's a pretty good title) and Captain Marvel 2 (The Marvels...I mean we have two Captain Marvels and a Ms Marvel...I guess that's what they'll be going with. Just based on the name)

Thought for a brief second that we'd get Spidey footage, but that would be a bit much. I don't even know if they've wrapped filming yet. Probably not.

EDIT: Also, I dig all the release dates, Fantastic 4...we'll get to it.

Exactly. I hate politics being forced into shows I watch, which is basically Goddamn everything these days. And this show was about as nuanced with it as a cow mallet to the skull. That cornball speech he gave after Carly died. Christ, talk about a faceplant of a show.

"Stop calling them terrorists" when she had been performing actions that are the literal definition of terrorism. Jesus...

We have two Captain Marvels? Since it looks like Monica jumped right over that into her Spectrum powerset.

I don't know that they're going to be super rigid about that, or even really call her Captain Marvel. But they do seem to be playing up the idea that there's going to be multiples of the people who use "Marvel" in their name. I mean, look...I'm just wildly guessing on a title in an announcement video. I don't know what they're gonna do.

The point was that the label terrorist is just used to abrogate responsibility for the argument. It's really no different to Hamas or the IRA or Al Qaeda... terrorists are all kinds of wrong but the only time anyone's ever bothered to consider the underlying grievances of the terrorists I can think of is the fucking IRA where, frankly, it seemed Americans were for the terrorists. It's probably not a coincidence that the IRA were, for all intents and purposes, defeated because they quit.

We don't negotiate with terrorists is... naive. We don't care what the terrorists are about is... idiotic.

However, the last episode was very clumsy. As I said, the MCU clearly lacks the guts to follow through on its own premises. With the way the show was set up, a happy ending should've been a jury refusing to convict Sam for his actions... and the distinction between Sam and Isaiah being that Sam is able to see the fact he got off as a good thing whilst Isaiah only sees that he was tried.

The political change should, likewise, have been achieved by the exercise of coercive power... this would have felt more thematically justified and highlighted the difference between Bucky and Sam. This then gives the Contessa a way of stating her point of difference, e.g. "The Senator could've just listened to Wilson, there were votes in that. But men, people, like him never see the bigger picture. And that's why what we really need isn't a Captain America but a US agent because shit's about to get weird".

However, I reject your characterisation of TFatWS's handling of political issues otherwise.

Carol and Monica fly to space to rescue Kamala from the Kree who are kidnapping Inhumans to turn them into weapons.

Gets all three characters involved, allows the MCU to smoothly reintroduce Inhumans again, keeps the film focussed on major ideas from the first film (about the Kree), allows the return of Yon Rogg and/or the Supreme Intelligence in a villainous role, allows the movie to balance the space character nature of Carol with the more Earth bound Ms Marvel and the in-between the two status of Monica. Oh, and it's a really clear way of introducing how Kamala thinks about superheroes.

Downsides are, of course, that it's a bit damsel in distress-y.

Well, the IRA were fighting the British. Which is basically something anyone can get behind...like seriously, every country out there has had beef with them at one point or another. What happens when you colonize half the globe. And hey, it inspired some great diss tracks.

I don't really read comics. I've read like, 3 in my entire life. My knowledge of superheroes comes from cartoons, movies and general pop-cultural osmosis.

Oh, well...that actually kind of explains it.

Yeah, comics are and have always been pretty fucking political. Especially Captain America.

I mean, listen to what Stan says in that 'celebrate the movies' video.

Its a show about a black man taking up the mantle of Captain America. How do you make that not political?

To do what? Just ignore the implication of Sam, a black man, to take up the mantle of pretty much the embodiment of patrotism? Because just ignoring it would itself be a political statement. There is literally no way to not make Sam becoming Captain America not political.

To make an actual entertaining superhero show, and not a political Twitter post with Marvel actors.
