It was pretty ok, I liked the whole flying Red Room thing, it’s like something a James Bond villain would have. The post-credits scene gave birth to a theory: Yelena and/or Val will be the main antagonist of Hawkeye.

I mean, the latest trailer makes it look better, but it's still not one I particularly care about. I'll go see it probably, because it's part of the MCU, but it's not one I'm super hyped for. Only thing is that it comes out in November and I'm very busy that month (moving, approaching the end of the semester, the holidays, etc.).

Talk about the amount of Spider-men in NWH and more hype when the 2nd trailer arrives. Apparantly Sony wants to show Maguire and Garfield in the trailer but Marvel wants to keep them secret until the movie.

Eternals has had a really screwed up marketing campaign because of Covid and Covid related fixture congestion. Also, I maintain its first trailer is just straight up bad... I wouldn't be surprised if people got fired over it. The second trailer was substantially better but that's the first point... the second is also the only trailer (the other was technically a teaser).

With Hawkeye... I'd forgotten about it but given my current issues with watching Shang-Chi (Covid is... not going great here), I think that's mostly because (this and the other thread aside), I've been avoiding everything Marvel.

However, I also think Disney+ doesn't know how to advertise a television show that releases weekly. They've tended to pump out random mixes of episodes a la movie trailer when they need to focus on convincing people that next week is going to forgive any flaws from this week. Thus far they've released shows featuring either massively popular characters (Loki, What If?) or in an environment where there's been limited other MCU content. Hawkeye's neither particularly popular (if anything, the opposite) and coming out when the MCU has been back for a while.

And if we need to keep the thread alive, let's play a game. Pitch a plotline (movie, TV, whatever) based on a MCU releated premise given by the previous poster. That premise needs to be short but it could be a sentence of a character or an idea. I'll start with a fan favourite (that I did ages ago myself, anyway)....

It's an interesting idea, but I definitely wouldn't make it work like Ronan's betrayal. I think the What If concepts work best when they're more than just subbing characters in and out for each other (here Maw and Ronan). Instead, I'd set it in the past... perhaps Maw sees one of Thanos' torture sessions with Nebula and intervenes. Not because Maw is kind hearted or anything but because he concludes that Thanos is betraying his ideals... getting personal rather than remaining mission oriented.

A What If I'd really like to see is a variant of the Rune King Thor from the comics... What If Thor didn't blame himself? It'd play out half way between evil Stephen and party Thor, I think.

As far as I remember, Peter just straight up lied and never played Free Bird so I've done it for him.

I wouldn't be so sure that they won't do something similar to evil!Avengers and good!villains. It's hard to do Magneto without doing good!villains eventually... and (unbelievably) that's sort of ended up being Apocalypse's trajectory as well. And it's easy to have the Avengers as the antagonists if your protagonists are the X-Men. Not quite the same, I admit, but you never know.

And in a similar "not exactly what you want but kind of" vein, the Contessa may be a combo of Victoria Hand and Osborn in the MCU, so it's possible we're heading towards a version of Dark Avengers where you've got these "troubled" characters who maybe end up being manipulated into being evil!Avengers.

I know Marvel Studios What If isn't really What If but they've usually at least tried to pretend it is, so it seems slightly awkward to fit the Squadron Supreme into the concept. (nekminnit "Feige announces Squadron Supreme movie")

How about What If the Skrulls knew about Thanos? So, this is a world where Tesseract!Carol and Sceptre!Thanos face off in 1995, which creates a rip in reality through which the Squadron Supreme enter that universe and make first contact with Coulson. And then, I guess, it proceeds from there depending on what kind of Squadron Supreme you want... evil, amoral or good.

I would like to see a new Punisher movie because he’s my favorite MCU character.

Now you might be saying, but we’ve had two “bad movies” (I actually like the Jane version) and a Netflix show already. Yes but I don’t think every angle’s been explored:

For example, something that’s not been done on the screen yet is to have Castle fight against magic users. Imagine say, a Witch Queen type character with immense magical power who assembles a magical army and then uses magic in combat; and the Punisher facing to use his brutality, resourcefulness, and skills to overcome that challenge.

It would be interesting to see him first fail because his skill set is for taking down street thugs and crime groups, but then adapt to the new situation.

I’d prefer the tone to still be dark, gritty and violent as opposed to blockbuster light heart though. So it would feature visceral, turn of the table gruesome kills in many fights.

No, mostly because she should turn him into a newt in the first minute.

While I suspect Gamora will be in it somehow, I will point out that this will just be the last episode of the first season.

And it was a good one, though I now agree with your previous post that the episodes should be stand alone, I don't need everything coming together in the finale of the second season.

A few things

- So the Stones work in every universe but you can only destroy the ones from the universe you come from.
- Do Infinty Ultron and Supreme Strange never wonder who the Watcher was talking to?
- Protecting the multiverse is something the Living Tribunal does but I guess it was his day off, though that would also have been a very boring and short episode.

Having finally watched, I can confirm that I still liked the episode, but still hope they’ll not do more crossover stuff (and justify this one as basically a first-season bonus or something)

What If Infinity Stones thing

So apparently, Word of God is that the Stones still only work in their native universe or on stuff from that one - ie Ultron could only affect himself/his weapons in other universes. In retrospect this is mostly true (the fights with Uatu and Zombie Wanda seem to not quite follow that, and it does explain the need for the actual Ultron army as an invasion force.
