Lets Create A Country's History!

This game is simple. Each poster adds to the history of a fictional country in a fictional world. This is not alternate history with a divergence in the real world, this is a completely different universe so don't worry about doing to much research. Please do not make sudden or crazy changes such as "alien space bats land and destroy the nation". The time between posts will fluctuate; a random tribe might have 1 post per century but a superpower involved in a world war might have 1 post per month. Once we reach around 2050 we can start over.
For example:
1st Post: 1000 BC: Several former nomadic tribes with a total population of 200,000 settle down and form a loose confederation known as Examplenation.
2nd Post: 100 ENF: A new calendar is invented, starting from the founding of the nation.
3rd post: 200 ENF: The most powerful tribal leader defeats the others and declares that he is now king of Examplenation.
4th post: 210 ENF: The other tribes rebel and defeat him. Examplenation once again returns to being a loose oligarchic confederation.
5th post: 400 ENF: The nation has prospered, total population is now 400,000.
6th post: 500 ENF: The nation is invaded by the nearby Someplace Empire, which makes the area a province.
7th post: 900 ENF: The Someplace Empire collapses after being attacked by barbarians. Examplenation becomes an independent kingdom with a population of 700,000.
And so on...

(This is intended to serve as a useful summary for new posters who don't know what's going on. It will not always be up to date though. Currently this covers history from 1000 to 1553, anything later has not yet been added. If things haven't been added to this summary, just read the actual game.)
THIS IS NO LONGER RELEVANT. This is the history of Violetia-Maxville. We have already started to write the history of another nation, Zoltonland.
The small United Duchy of Violetia-Maxville forms. It is constantly under threat from nomadic raiders, the large Icewalker Empire to its north, and power struggles within the nation. Because of this it allies with several other small nations around it. From 1040 to 1045 a brief civil war occurs but the Violetians reunify the nation and consolidate power in the former fishing village of Portbarry, which will soon become the nation's capital. The government is forced to give Maxvillians more power in the government. By 1148 the merchants of Portbarry are powerful enough to launch a coup but are defeated by King Alexi I. Alexi quickly becomes one of the most popular rulers of the UDVM in history due to his reforms to create a semi-democratic council system and the large wall built in the north during his reign, but he is assassinated by a merchant for revenge. Romulus Augustine I becomes king and makes the government of the UDVM much more authoritarian, but the people accept it because they believe it's the only way to stop the plague and the approaching Icewalker armies. The Icewalkers fail to penetrate Alexi's wall but launch a naval invasion of Portbarry in 1177 and capture Romulus Augustine. The new government is now bankrupt and powerless and 14 cliques seize power. (During this time Violetia-Maxville had discovered a distant land , but the colony is increasingly neglected.
In 1207 High King Anarion reunites the country and grants the cliques autonomy as Lower Kingdoms. After some political maneuvers from the Lower Kingdoms a successor is chosen but is then imprisoned by the king's council. The political situation intensifies and lawlessness is widespread. The eastern Lower Kingdoms declare independence and King Valerian rises to power there and invades the west and reunifies the country...but then gets assassinated...and then things get very messy...and the end result is that a peasant takes power in the east and proclaims himself High King of Valeria, while the richer western half continues to be controlled by the Barry dynasty. The two halves ally to defeat the Icewalkers wen they attempt to invade again, but in 1403, while the Icewalker Empire is preoccupied with nomadic hordes, Valeria launches an attack on Violetia-Maxville. Violetia-Maxville wins and annexes most of Valeria, and the next leader inherits the rest in 1428. Tralvia and The Icewalker Empire simultaneously attack, but Alexi IV is a brilliant tactician and defeats the Tralvians. He then marches north and manages to hold the wall against the invaders. The Icewalkers eventually lose and nearby nations form the Confederation of Jenniferia with Maxville-Violetia. At the same time, however, religious tension begins to build up between the majority Purplists and the the Atelianist religion which had been brought to the country from the Icewalker Empire. After Alexi's death in 1482 the next king, Valois I, bans Atelianism and suppresses all other religions except for Purplism as well. During the time the mysterious "delegates of the 18th sun begin to attempt to seize power. At this point most armies are equipped with cannons and guns are also becoming widespread, and the Icewalker Empire has collapsed.
At the same time, Jenniferia's forgotten colonies decide to declare independence due to being neglected and due to thwe harsh religious policies of Valois I back home. In 1492 King Valois I dies and his successor, Marcus I, attempts to end religious discrimination. He his assassinated by a group of hardline Purplists who attempt to seize power. Marcus II continues his father's plans and eventually wins a civil war against the radical Purplists in 1506, but he is severely injured during the war. Meanwhile, rumors of "fox people", a subspecies of humans with teeth and ears like a fox, in the distant continent are proven when one of them sails back to Jenniferia and reveals that the fox people have established a civilization they call Del-Kasha at the same tech level as the rest of the world. (This wasn't realistic but I allowed it because it seemed like an interesting plot development.) Molovian fever spreads through Jenniferia and in the middle of the chaos Darcelia is allowed to secede. An inventor in Del-Kasha develops a hot air balloon, which the Jenniferian government believes is the next great technological advancement in the military. (This is why they improve diplomatic relations with Del-Kasha. However,
balloons at this point are still very impractical. Great technological advancements are made in this era, culminating in Jenniferia's former colonies,
now the Frontier Republic, building a massive flagship. The Sigil Coast and the Frontier Republic begin to have conflicts over their colonies, which ends with the Frontier Republic invading the Sigil Coast and installing a republic. Meanwhile ships discover mysterious cannibals in the frigid northeastern part of the continent. The Jenniferian Confederation is increasingly threatened by the League of Trelaia, an alliance between Tralvia, the Fifth Icewalker Empire (an Icewalker remnant after the first empire's collapse), and Relsenia, as well as radical Purplists and the mysterious delegates of the 18th sun. In 1546, a massive war breaks out, with the Fifth Icewalker Empire penetrating Alexi's Wall and Jenniferia invading Relsenia and Trelvia. The war is about to end with a Jenniferian victory in 1553 with the help of the Frontier Republic, Del-Kasha, and the Sigil Coast Republic.

I'll start:
1000 AD: The United Duchy of Violetia-Maxville is formed, led by Max I of the House of Barry. (Feel free to rename a country if it seems realistic, for example if there are sudden culture changes or if the country expands significantly.)

1010 AD: The small neighboring kingdom of Darcelia to the west forms a close alliance with the United Duchy in the interest of defending both nations from the large Icewalker Empire to the north.

With the succession of the duke following the death of Max 1, his second son, Oliver 1, kills his brother and takes power.

1016AD
Oliver 1 starts a campaign of defensive construction on the border with the Icewalker Empire, with much of the Duchy's resources being directed toward this.

1018AD
Incursions from raiders provoke the mobilisation of the Duchy's army to the border.

1019AD
Oliver 1 launches a campaign into the north to try to stabilise the region. It fails to accomplish this before the descent of winter, which forces the army to withdraw.

1024AD
Skirmishing and violence continues in the border area

1025AD
Oliver 1 dies in a campaign, with his daughter Felicity taking power after several years of political instability.

1030 AD: Darcelia unites with a medium-sized kingdom to its west called Bordeline to create the Free Kingdom, ruled by a benevolent monarch that defends the rights of its people and seeks to help those oppressed by unjust governments. It annexes a sizable amount of the Icewalker Empire, allowing the United Duchy to gain some Icewalker Land as well.

Meanwhile, a small group of trading vessels thought missing for two years returns to the United Duchy, having been blown off course in the oceans to the west only to discover a new, uninhabited continent.

1040 AD: The Duke of Violetia-Maxville is overthrown in a revolution. The United Duchy splits into two countries, which are the Duchy of Maxville and the Principality of Violetia.

1042 AD: A disease strikes both nations that poisons potatoes and whoever eats them dies 2 days after.

1045: The potato disease affects Maxville more than it affects Violetia. Because of this the Violetians are able to win the war and become the Grand Duchy of Violetia.
1058: Violetia begins paying tribute to the Icewalker Empire (previously mentioned), but it still remains independent.

1066: An expedition is sent to the continents discovered by the lost trade ships, to found a beachhead settlement.
1067: The Icewalker Empire enters war with the Kingdom of Morvalia, moving their focus away from the Violetian Grand Duchy.

1068: The fishing town of Portbarry emerges as the Duchy's capital. Construction starts to expand its parish church into a cathedral.

1069: Unhappy with how the Duchy is being run, a small group in the east begins trying to rebel.

1099: Violetia's military resources are mostly spent suppressing rebellions in the east, so it doesn't accomplish anything notable between 1069 and 1099 other than completing the Portbarry Cathedral.

1101: An unrecognizable ship flying the Violetian flag enters the capital's harbor, bearing news about the colony. It had grown, and spread far across the coast. The Icewalker empire collapses into several successor states.

People in Maxville threaten to rebel if the name isn't changed back to Violetia-Maxville, so the government did as they wanted

1104 AD: The Maxvillians, still not satisfied, want full representation in everything, and the Grand Duchy gives it to them.

1125 AD: Portbarry grows from the tiny fishing village it once was to a prosperous port, bringing the Violet-Maxvillians large amounts of money. A smaller Icewalker Empire forms again in the north. Even though the Violet-Maxvillian military is smaller than the Icewalker one, they have enough money to hire mercenary forces and the Icewalker Empire is busy reunifying its old lands first so the nation is able to stop paying tribute.

The huge colony is unrealistic. Even making it to another continent and founding a successful colony in the 11th century is unlikely, making it cover the entire coast within 50 years is impossible.

The huge colony is unrealistic. Even making it to another continent and founding a successful colony in the 11th century is unlikely, making it cover the entire coast within 50 years is impossible.

It doesn't cover the entire coast, the colony stretches about 3 miles across. Besides, the Vikings did it, in Iceland.

1125-1130: the newfound prosperity contributes to the formation of a wealthy merchant class in Portbarry, who soon come to dominate city politics. In the streets between the Old Harbour and Portbarry Cathedral, imposing guild halls are constructed.

1148: A coalition of merchants hires mercenaries to overthrow and execute the king, causing a brief civil war. The merchants win and form a council to govern the nation. (Think Venice IRL.) The nation soon begins to build a navy to protect its trade from various pirates and raiders.

1150: Monarchist's rally support outside of the capital where the mass of peasants and nobility are still willing to fight against the merchants. The Monarchists unite the countryside behind the young and charismatic Prince Alexi. Attempts by the new government to expand their influence into the countryside only inflame tensions. In late 1150 Prince Alexi is crowned King and calls on all loyal men to rise up and overthrow the traitors in Portbarry. The countryside rises up in rebellion and by within a week 'King' Alexi has assembled a sizable army with which he intends to march on Portbarry and restore the monarchy.

1151: After one year of siege Portbarry finally falls to loyalist forces who arrive inside the city walls to find only burning ruins. King Alexi holds a more official coronation in wreckage of the Portbarry Cathedral and begins rebuilding it. The merchants have lost almost all of their power.

1151 to 1152 AD: King Alexi shows his support and concern for the common people by joining workers in the rebuilding of the cathedral. The new king establishes a democratically-elected council with representatives from each village and city in the country, which can veto his actions with an 80% vote.

1153: The Icewalker Empire is finally reunified under the fearsome new Emperor Caedmon. His military genius and personal strength have already gained him the nickname 'The Hammer of the North'. Fearing invasion King Alexi rides north to rebuild the now crumbling defences constructed by his ancestors.
