John Hurt has always been a good voice actor, so I'm actually more interested in this movie now.

But there's still no Tau :(

Sean Pertwee clenched it. One of the best voice actors I've ever heard. (Look at Hakha from Killzone 1 and Radec from Killzone 2)

Really good array of actors - shame about the fact I've got zero interest in the film.

Games Workshop has, over the last couple of years, stamped out what little interest I had in it left. The fact that everything seems to be reverting to the old Second Edition way of having a shedload of ridiculously powerful special characters and all this sort of thing.
The above post may or may not be serious.

Film for 40k?
I have doubts as to how 40K ideas can be used in a film, at least to be used in a good film.
i worry.

Sean Pertwee acting, and a story by Dan Abnett, the best writer for 40k? Doesn't sound so bad too bad to me.

Nice, but apparently it doesn't represent the final game. On that subject though, the only good electronic games made by GW are Final Liberation and Dawn of War.

yep i was just about to say so. :p

However i think the all new idea is the better option of making a film of 40k, if you run into problems it's far easier to just change the plot accordingly. Can you tell me what the main plot lines will be? or at least how many races will play a major role?

As i see it showing all the races in 40K would be the ideal, however i know this would be pretty difficult to do in one film. At least to sufficiently show each the way they are supposed to be.

I would imagine the basic premise involves an elite Space marine squad taking down either Orks (they are a popular enemy), Tyranids or Chaos Space marines.
Orks would limit the character development, i mean it's not like Orks have much in the way of personality to go on. (although they are pretty cool nonetheless).
Tyranids....again would need to be careful with them so as not to appear ripping off previous Alien films.
Chaos Space Marines by deduction is the best option of enemy, it's not hard to alter the suits or whatever to show them, they have the same ability for character development and there is sufficient interest in them and they look cool.

Course other opponents could be considered but i think these are the main candidates.
Definate no no's would be:
Necrons sorry but they really screwed up with these guys. For instance Dawn of War games are pretty difficult to win as them, limited replayability, and for gods sake they're just machines how boring is that?
Tau, yuk look like a dodgy cartoon. They could do more with these guys in the future of the game itself i mean. The idea of different races combining forces makes sense, increased input of Vespid units, Kroot units and i would add another race or two just to be sure it is a coalition of forces aligning to survive. Only once these changes are made would i be happy with the Tau.
Dark eldar, limited character development (and indeed interest in them i imagine) which is a shame. They are actually quite fun to play as in 40k. I mean they could have human pirates as conscripted allies, or even twisted units made of negative soul energy. Tactics involving deception would be another possible path.

Do it right first time. And for those involved in movie production goodluck.

Chaos gate i would add.
ALthough it was made many years ago, in those dark times it was pretty good.

And i notice the new Dawn of War 2 as taken a few pages from this particular book. A wise move.

Final Liberation was good fun, the titans in it are ace to play as.

ahh yes teh Orks. I would like to see how games workshop can get it's head around giving these guys some character. The whole image of being pawns of the Eldar is a little unfair on the green giants (this features heavily in Dawn of War series games).
It can be done, but please no more utterly idiotic orks, just give them some cool background, a little more developed philosophy. (hell they could do this with the weirdboyz)

You really had difficulty winning in Dawn of War as the Crons? They are so Overpowered, I found them to be the easiest to win with, just spam flayeds until you have a shrouded, unstoppable, killing fortress and you have it whipped! :lol2:

In fact, many of the multiplayer games specifically put down "no Crons" because of that, :?

Love the cast suggested so far. That might actually make me interested in a product I'd otherwise likely have skipped.

They've been VERY coy about revealing who the opposition are likely to be - all the concept art revealed so far has been very obviously Space Marine, and - more specifically - usually easily identified as Ultramarines.

But they may have just given the really geeky geeks a clue - and a clue that would probably make Maurepas happy.

The enemy in the Ultramarines movie is almost certainly going to be Orks (although there's an outside possibility of a combined storyline with Tau and Chaos... but the Ork connection is much more likely).

I'm tempted to just leave it at that, and see if I'm actually the biggest 40k geek on the (planet) forum, or if anyone else can work out how I got there. :)

In the established canon of 40k, there have been two prominent characters named Severus:

1) Governor Meyloch Severus, with ties to Chaos - antagonist to the Tau in "Fire Warrior". This gave me real problems - because this is the character Sean Pertwee voiced in the game, and the Ultramarines ARE involved, albeit, largely in a kind of diplomatic role.

2) Brother Sergeant Severus was an Ultramarines hero locked into a Dreadnought that distinguished himself (biggest achievement, maybe) in the Corinthian campaign - against greenskins. There's also potential for this character to fight Eldar,Tau and Tyrannids... just about anyone. The Severus Dreadnought is a pretty long running element.

Sean Pertwee's character in the movie is Proteus. The only "Proteus" reference I can think of, is the "Masters of Proteus" chapter - who have a certain similarity to Ultramarines (white armour with blue, and some yellow). So... that's no help.

Now - Terence Stamp voices 'Severus'. That's no clue - he could voice either a dreadnought pilot or a planetary Governor.

Admittedly - it's pinning a lot on the established character names, as revealed (Carnak, Severus, Proteus, Verenor, Pythol, Nidon) - and making the huge assumption that the Corinthian campaign would be the focus.

I'd like it if the movie followed the Tau/Word Bearers Chaos marines storyline - but find it hard to believe that the main protagonist in the 40k movie is going to be Tau.

I really like the 40k mythos. Well, bits of it. They're gradually losing me.

They lost me on purchasing table-top figures long ago, when they decided to maximise the price on everything, rather than sell more units at a slightly lower price. Got too rich for me. And now, if they keep diluting the core content with crap (I don't mind when they add good stuff) they'll lose me on every front.
