Are we allowed to use our countries outside of NS

Postby Populi-Terrae » Sun Jan 29, 2017 9:18 pm

If we wanted to, could we create pieces of media, such as books, involving our nations or is our nation considered part of NationStates' copyright?
We are a free and democratic nation. Right now, we're MT. But we're getting close to becoming PMT.

The animal on our flag is a lion, not a dog.

You may use NS stats. (except for the income tax and income equality)

If it is, then the day I publish my books about the UCE I will be in trouble with Max Barry.
I doubt it, anyway.

I would think its alright to since it's your nation. But for safety, I would most likely not.

Excerpt from the terms of service:
When you submit content to NationStates.net, you grant the site and its administrator(s) a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license to reproduce, distribute, transmit, and publicly display such content.

Non-exclusive license means stuff you created such as factbooks or forum posts you wrote, names you made up, or flags you designed can be used outside NS.

The portion of site content that has not been submitted by users is copyright under international law (c) Max Barry 2002-2015.

This means the design of the site, the game itself, and anything generated by the game (such as the description on your nation's profile page) are copyright.

You can write a book about your nation as long as you work within these rules.

Copy and pasting the game-generated description, word for word, is obviously very lazy.

I do not expect any issues in turning your nation into a stand-alone franchise, if you have skills to do it, because we are not the Games Workshop (Sorry for the brash research). :p
