Musicians, Composers, Vocalists, Instrumentalists

Postby Myuostii » Tue Jan 03, 2017 5:37 pm

Hello!

This is a music-oriented thread about the creation, the sound, the technicalities, and pretty much everything about music. As the name suggests, this is aimed at musicians and composers, regardless of age, method, or instrument. Users are encouraged to help out fellow musicians, recommend classical (or contemporary!) music pieces, share fun anecdotes, and be a supportive community. Please, do NOT discuss radical political matters here or prejudice fellow users due to beliefs. You are allowed to link to websites and share pictures, as long as any of the content is not NSFW or too off-topic/ unrelated. Roleplaying IS allowed as long as it does not consume the entire thread.

Unfortunately, I do not expect this thread to get very popular. As you could probably tell, I am new to both the website and forums. Hopefully I can learn :meh:

And before I conclude, allow me to leave a picture of my instrument: Image

WOW. These pieces are really nice! I've been working on a piece since this summer and only recently made any progress on the song. It's still a major work in progress, though. It's a piece I constructed on my keyboard for any standard piano.

I play violin, mandolin, and piano myself. On all three I play in the classical style, but I have a modern-build A-style mandolin with two f-holes.

My completed compositions and arrangements can be found here. At the moment, I'm redoing the arrangement of Polyushko Polye, as the one up presently is admittedly quite horrible. I'm also working on a myriad of other perpetually incomplete original pieces as well, the main being a piano sonata.

I play guitar mostly, but I know how to play bass decently, mess around with drum machines, and am going to teach myself to play tin whistle.

I plan on recording some black metal in the future once I write some more and get a microphone.

I play guitar (I own a classical guitar, have played acoustic at school, and took electric guitar lessons but I'm planning on buying one), I sort of play piano but not so much anymore (I own a Casio keyboard), I used to play violin, and I attempted flute but failed miserably. And of course, there's the typical recorder they make you play in primary school (which I failed at too). Wind instruments aren't my forte (pun not intended).

The fact that I couldn't play recorder actually almost made me join art instead of band.
In unrelated news, the art program is gone. :(

I don't really like music at school because there's so much boring music theory but I like art even less because art teachers tend to be so critical and that pushes away people who aren't technically great artists.

Well, I never took any sort of art lessons, but I didn't know how...critical instructors in that field could be.
I probably should've expected it, though.

And as for music, ever since I began receiving professional tutoring, I've noticed how public schools' music programs only let you improve to an extent. It is much more limited.

I actually really like being able to piece apart the parts of a chord, balance instruments' colors, dynamic contrast, etc. As for the mediocrity of the performing experience, I compensate that by performing with outside groups.

I play the piano and keyboard nowadays. Not a maestro at that, just your typical, average guy who plays them. I can play popular music songs, although I still have to look up the chords from time to time. I don't have any classical experience, though.

I played the recorder when I was in junior high school. That was like 1-2 years ago, man time does pass quickly. I actually kinda love it, even though I never came around to really mastering it. Still a wonderful little instrument, though. I should pick it up again sometime in the future.

I used to play the drums, but I stopped a few years ago, when I had other priorities in life, and haven't really come back to them since, aside from a few three-to-five-minute efforts, but never for much longer than that. I think I can still do a little basic drumming, but my drumming skills surely have gone to rust. I really need to try drumming again for a longer period of time and see if I still can do it.

Interestingly enough, this has to be the first weekend I bring my instrument home and forget to practice.
I probably would now, but NationStates is calling me to answer forum posts instead.

Hey ho.

I play euphonium (in a loose sense -- it has, tragically, been a few years since I've touched one) and trombone (in a less loose sense, as I do own my own), as well as recreational tin whistle.

I also have written a[/ur] [url=https://soundcloud.com/ejmears95]few things, none of which have ever been performed, sadly. I should write more; I haven't finished anything in a long time now.

Hello. I am looking to compose. I play trumpet and want to learn piano.

I hear music in my head all the time. I just have to learn to get it from there to paper. I would call most of what I hear "Modern Romanticism", and my favorite musical era is the romantic era.

If you can, you'll want to invest in courses in music theory and ear training, as those'll give you a lot of the tools you need to get what you're hearing to paper.

I took a music theory course last semester (I am a junior in high school). It actually did help a lot.

I took my first at the same age -- I was also lucky enough to go to a school that then offered an AP Theory course, which was good, as music is not what I've ended up pursuing in college. Have you experimented much with actually writing?
