Paradox Games VI: Cuckolding Habsburgs since 1076 AD

So I returned to EU4 after an absence with a multiplayer game with a friend. Terms were mid-sized nations in Europe not played before, ally together for minimum 50 years, see what can be done.

I chose Milan, he chose Bohemia.

Things go about as expected for the first decade. I manage to secure an alliance with France alongside with mandated Bohemian alliance, attack an annex Mantua with no trouble and get stuck with some lacklustre leaders after rejecting the Ambrosian Republic. I manage to capitalise on a war against Venice was they're fighting Austria and Hungary to take back my core Brescia, plus another province. Upped my development had a good income, pretty good start.

Bohemia upped their development, annexed their vassal, took a province from the Palatinate and secured a network of alliances and marriages with Austria, Saxony and Bavaria. Managed to score a 5/5/5 king.

Shortly after, the Burgundian event fired during a war with France and the territory split between France and Castile. Five years after that the Austrian Archduke dies with no heir and Austria gets in a PU led by Bohemia, who becomes the HRE.

This leads to a succession war with France, who I had to ditch my alliance with. Fortunately, a series of rebellions left France weakened and slow to respond. Its allies of Savoy and the Papal states were overwhelmed and forced into peace before we even saw a French army. When we did, they were easily beaten and France was occupied and defeated.

It's now 1480, France is weakened with no allies and Austria is now a puppet.

On the bright side for me, the removal of Austria means many Italian states now lack a strong ally to defend against me.

Hey guys, some really bad shit happened to me over the past couple of days so in order to distract myself I'm going to be playing through Kaiserreich for Darkest Hour as the Princely Federation and try to form the Indian Empire.

But I'll be posting my progress here every so often, sometimes with gameplay tips or whatnot. It'll be called "Kaisar-i-Hind", after the term coined in the mid-1880s for the Emperor of India.

For those unaware, the Princely Federation is the hardest to actually unify India under, especially if I go Empire, not Federation route.

But I'll be posting my progress here every so often, sometimes with gameplay tips or whatnot. It'll be called "Kaisar-i-Hind", after the term coined in the mid-1880s for the Emperor of India.

For those unaware, the Princely Federation is the hardest to actually unify India under, especially if I go Empire, not Federation route.

It seems a bit easier in the most recent versions of KR, I've seen the AI do it quite a few times now.

Actually, that's Druidists living it up in Eastern Iberia. There are only a half-dozen (possibly less) Christian provinces in the whole world.

Okay so after fighting an extremely costly war with Spain and winning almost every battle AND inflicting 2-3 times as many casualties in every battle then I suffered I still somehow managed to lose because my armies morale was shit and my border forts fell before they could recover.
So, I have decided that Bralia was right and that Defensive should be my first military Idea Group from now on....still think Protestant is better than Reformed though.

So after that disappointing war I'm going to take a break from France for awhile and try my hand at the Papal State.

Okay so after fighting an extremely costly war with Spain and winning almost every battle AND inflicting 2-3 times as many casualties in every battle then I suffered I still somehow managed to lose because my armies morale was shit and my border forts fell before they could recover.
So, I have decided that Bralia was right and that Defensive should be my first military Idea Group from now on....still think Protestant is better than Reformed though.

Castile is not to be underestimated in the early game. They start with 15% extra morale and their first idea gives them more discipline. Castile completing their anti-Muslim missions gives them even more morale, so if they've conquered Granada recently, they're actually a major threat. Things should even out pretty quickly considering Élan is your second idea in line.

I'm currently playing as Hejaz and I managed to conquered the almost all of Arabian Peninsular. I have the ambition to turn Hejaz into Arabia. Too bad it was bit too late to acquired few of the areas needed now that they are under...Ottoman.

Also I already made way to Ethiopia as well.

Fun fact that a lot of people probably don't know: If you kick Naples out of the union with Aragon in the early game, there's a chance, albeit a remote one (1 in 10 chance, iirc), that they'll sign themselves up to be a union partner under France. Discovered that interesting event when rooting around in the files relatively recently.

There's no radical Islamic preacher for America in Millennium Dawn. My ridiculous plan to try and make an Islamist America can't happen. . This is actually really weird, because I've been tag-switching around and it doesn't look like any other nation has any missing ideologies that they can't switch to. And the Islamist option isn't the only option missing, you can't become nationalist, social democratic, or monarchist. At least I can understand the lack of a monarchist option, out of all of them.
