Imperials used to not exist either. Khajiit used to look human, and orcs were just enemies in Arena.

Think I'll do Stormcloak this time. Used to always go Imperial, but I find myself becoming more and more sympathetic to the Stormcloak cause.

Also, since I built my house in Morthal when I last played the game years ago, I think I'll build mine in either Dawnstar or Falkreath. Anyone have any opinions about those build sites?

Oh, and are Dawnguard and Dragonborn good? Never got them on PC.

I like Falkreath the most. It's very green and has a nice view made better with a few mods.

Haven't played much of DG or DB, though.

Thing is, I prefer more gloomy, depressing environments (I'm weird like that), which is why I went Morthal last time. But from what I've heard, the Dawnstar house is just in the middle of an empty tundra.

Wish there were more options.

Tiber Septim changed it to be more temperate upon his apotheosis. While I undoubtedly love Oblivion's "generic late medieval" setting and aesthetic, Romans in a rain forest would have proven far more interesting.

Anyways making a jungle would have been too complicated for Bethesda so they changed it. They could change Black Marsh if they wanted to.

I believe they added Imperials as late as Morrowind along with Orcs. That's the same game where Khajiit became cats.

Is there a game set in the era from when the Orcs were more powerful?

There's an entire DLC for it that revolves around going to Orsinium and helping the king out.

Dragonborn's great. You get Solstheim, a bunch of new questlines, and a much better antagonist than Alduin
(two of them, in fact)
. Dawnguard doesn't add as much, but the quest is good. The constant vampire attacks can get annoying, though.

Does anyone else leave Dragonborn for the end? Ive always liked going to Solstheim and facing Miraak after ive beaten Alduin, always saw it as a fitting ending to Skyrim's story, the first dragonborn and the last.

I usually do dawnguard at various points alongside the main story and then finish it about half way through.

Absolutely. I think they captured the epicness quite well in that fight, and it definitely works as a final boss for the whole game. Both times I played DB I did it in third person with the Thu'umic mod (which lets you activate shouts with the microphone) and a mod to reduce shout recovery times, as well as the difficulty cranked right up. Two Dragonborn throwing ridiculous numbers of shouts for ages and ages on that pillar thingy.

It was really quite cinematic.

I never even beat Skyrim or started any of the DLCs. I went around doing side quests and then started modding.

It kind of sucks how little the end of the civil war changes the game. Some people comment about it, but many still act like it's still going on. Not being able to get rid of the last Imperial/Stormcloak camps is also annoying.

I wish the civil war was more developed, definitely one of parts of the game i was disappointed in.

Different mission structure, the missions are basically the exact same regardless if you go storm cloak or imperial with the only real difference being who you are killing. You have a courier mission, a rescue mission, a blackmail mission and an assortment of castle battles that follow the same structure then you have the attack on the capital of either faction. Then afterwards nothing much changes except the guards, you can still find remnants of the losing faction, but they just seem to be there (and the camp commanders cant be killed either)

I would have preferred if each faction had its own set of missions that were unique, say the Stormcloaks have a bunch of hit and run themed missions and more espionage themed to try and bleed the legion dry, and the legion could have maybe more diplomacy based missions as one of the things about Imperials is they have a thing for diplomacy, then have larger scale battles at key areas every now and then. Heck maybe even add in more to do with the Thalmor, with missions for both factions having to deal with them in their way, hell might have some covert imperial actions against them.

The civil war story line felt half finished to me.

Oblivion has better sidequests in my opinion, and sidequests are a huge part of TES.
And although it has arguably worse Destruction spells, it beats Skyrim in almost every other school of magic, especially Alteration.

I don't really have any other reasons. I like the magic and sidequests more.
That's about it.

And Oblivion also had Sean Bean.

But I do play Skyrim a lot more nowadays because of my newly obtained access to mods.
