I don’t think they have anything against mages. It’s just stupid you have to join them in order to access an amulet needed for a totally separate quest, and they can’t leave quest lines unfinished.

That is one of my favorite quest lines. When i adopt kids I tell Constance im the Arch Mage.

I never liked the College of Winterhold questline. I prefer the Thieves Guild's a lot more.

I enjoyed that one as well but it's very long and requires a great deal of work to fully restore the ragged flagon

Eh, good point.

On my main thief save I actually picked up the Bust of the Gray Fox and now I can't put it back to where it's supposed to be and it really ticks me off.

Apparently using healing spells near Talsgar turns him hostile. Well Skyrim has one less bard.

Don't get me started on Sabercats. Doing a dark brotherhood build on my Switch and I nearly died from a Sabercat trying to get to Montierre. I'm level 8.

As someone who usually explores Skyrim in its entirety at the start of every new character, I have run into sabercats at level 2. The only advice I can really give for beating them at low levels is to get on a rock they can't easily follow you onto, throw magic/arrows at tbem, and when they run off jump down from the rock. Rinse and repeat until dead. Also, be careful, as there's often two of them.

Impaled Nazarene wrote:I feel like im the only person who struggles with magic in skyrim. even when leveling magicka up i feel like i never have enough and my damage is always low. I never cared for magic in most fantasy universes but i also dont like being bad with it when its a free option.

How do i mage?

Everyone else gave good advice on leveling skills and outfitting yourself, but you should know that destruction magic caps out lower than enchanted weapons do damage wise. And that's without abusing the crafting system. Magic is strong enough get you through the game, though characters with magic resistance will be a bitch to fight. If you're used to really powerful enchanted weapons though, you are going to feel weak.

I don't even start the Gauldur questline anymore unless I'm doing a character that uses magic. It's so bullshit you have to join the College just to get into Saarthal. I don't see why they couldn't have just shoved the Eye of Magnus bullshit into an entirely different section of the ruins so you can still get the Gauldur amulet.

Also kinda bullshit how you can't just sell those Stones of Barenziah to Vex right away without having to join the Thieves Guild. You'd think she'd fucking take them regardless of whose peddling them, but no, gotta be a Thief. I have to be careful not to pick them up unless I'm doing a Thief run.

While not an entirely identical problem, I find the Forsworn Conspiracy/No One Escape Cidhna Mine quest(s) to really force the player into a corner. You can either side with the Forsworn, savage Daedra worshiping killers, or you can side with the Silver-Bloods, corrupt bastards that use the Forsworn to ruthlessly take over the Reach and make the Black-Briars look like schoolyard bullies. It's hard to pick between bloodthirsty Daedra-worshipers and what is essentially the Nord Mafia aligned with the Stormcloaks when you're trying to be a loyal citizen of the Empire. I wish I could just gut both Madanach and Thonar to spite both the fuckers as they're pretty much equal levels of evil and despicable.

It is an annoyingly common occurrence in Skyrim. Though you can just kill Silver-Blood after he gives you the ring and the quest ends. Nothing really changes though.

Oof, didn't know that. I figured if you killed Madanach then Thonar wouldn't lose his essential status as that only leaves his method of completing the quest.

Guess that makes sense, though.

There's a mod where you can just sell them and/or buy them back to the Khajiit caravans IIRC. Good for people who want to pick them up without joining the Thieves Guild.

I was playing this character as a himbo ruthless merc who smashy before thinky. Joining the Mage's college is against that MO.

Like, the Thalmor Embassy mission is textually a stealth mission. I, instead, killed every single High Elf in sight.

To be fair the stealth system in ER/Fallout games is generally janky as fuck anyway, so one can be forgiven if the enemy several meters away somehow catches you when you are staying perfectly still and hidden behind objects.

Tbh it's the same with Fallout tbh, the only way to make stealth work reliably is by having a pile of Stealth Boys in your inventory, and wearing the lightest armor in the game (or even being naked).

Unfortunately Stealth Boys are not a staple of ES games, so not really an option.
