POLL: Do you normally prefer to NS as a hero or a villain?

Postby Liberated Free Nations » Tue Nov 29, 2016 12:55 pm

This poll allows you to pick up to two options. If you do more than just two options fairly equally, I might recommend Other by itself or in conjunction with another choice (if you lean more toward good or evil in some way).

As for me, I picked villains for mine. The reasons? They tend to get a lot more attention, and I am under the impression they are in shorter supply in stories and roleplay. After all, no great heroes arise without an evil to brave. The tragic antihero (perhaps someone with originally pure motives who turned into a mere corruption of his or her former self) can provide a lot of compelling background story in my opinion, and mustache-twirling villains I've often found useful for comical effect (admittedly, I am not the best at it, but I am practicing!).

I don't really do IC stuff these days, but Meryuma was designed as a utopia. However, I also ran a dystopian puppet for a while (The Holy Empire of Christian Dominion) that was a load of fun.

I love making characters of all shapes and sizes. If I do make villains, they are either tragic villains, or full on dalek-esque villains. Heroes I try to be more neutral that fully good. I find it nicer to make a more well rounded character whether they be hero or villain, than a perfectly good mary sue, or perfectly evil dalek.

I do realize that I am fairly balanced between hero and villain characters. Right now in a number of RPs and my own canon, I have 4 major 'hero' characters and 3 major 'villain' characters.

My main nation serves as an antagonist fora FT wargaming RP group. I enjoy the challenge. The most difficult aspect of playing a seemingly omnipotent alien species is keeping things balanced for a fair game. As the game's antagonist, I have to accept that I'm not the hero. The heroes do need to win, and I build in flaws for them to exploit. But I'll be damned if I make it easy on them.

My two main nations are this one (personal utopia) and Karn Evil Nine (personal dystopia, though it does play with a lot of my favorite horror tropes). Most of my other nations are in-between (though The Spiders From Mars is pretty much straight evil, and Abolitionist Rome is pretty much straight good).

It all depends. Most of the time I stick with good ole Omega here, the good hero, but if I'm feeling menacing, I'm a more tragic antihero type.
To be honest, if my mood is even more menacing, I also enjoy the mountain twirling villain type. I've really wanted to make a villanious puppet nation for a while now, but my time is very booked, and as is is difficult to get on here as my main nation sometimes.

Don't RP much anymore (I might eventually, but no promises), but in terms of the nations themselves, the 'main' one has shifted from a personal utopia in the past, then shifted to personal utopia (conditions apply) to something that I see as an interesting idea.

This nation is straight up personal utopia... ish; it is in that ish level because there's stuff politically that I'm both assured of my position on and there's also stuff I'm not fully sold on that is probably present in this nation (In the issues so far, not really in how I RP it in my head so far, though that's also something I'm not readily assured of outside of "there's a general notion of empathy and understanding that exists/is attempted amongst the people here which, of course, extends to the government", but really I kinda wonder if a lot of that sense of empathy isn't still then attached to my own perspective)
