NaNoWriMo?

Postby Goseaux » Sun Nov 06, 2016 5:27 pm

Anyone joining NaNo this November? I joined the YW program but unfortunately, being under 13 has limited me from using the forums.

Are there any veteran NaNo writers out there that can give a first-timer some help??

I did NaNo a few years ago, but don't have anything going this year.

It's mostly a matter of choosing a story idea that is interesting enough so it's not a chore to write, but not something that will get you bogged down in elaborate world-building, extensive research, or perfectionist fussing about the technical aspects of the writing.

And then just work on it any time you have free time, every day.

I'm doing it for the first time this year. I thought it would be a bit pointless, but it's surprisingly motivating. That little blue bar on the website forces me to keep churning out the words and not get caught up in revising what I've already written or planning what I haven't, which have both been pitfalls for me in the past.

It's definitely helping me cultivate good habits; I just hope I can keep to them once December comes around.

In terms of advice? I guess, if you like to work from an outline, make sure you've prepared it before November starts (I realise that's the most useless bit of advice I could possibly offer at this stage).
