I haven't really liked all of Metallica's music but damn Cliff Burton was a great bassist. RIP.

What strikes me more than anything after a few listens of the album is that for all the weird genre shifts it's much more of an "album" than we typically get these days. Tied together by a common theme, last track references and reprises some of the parts of earlier song etc.

Yeah, I kinda noticed it seemed more coherent despite the jumps.

Lacey Sturm - The Soldier

Sometimes I forget Flyleaf even existed. It just vanishes from memory entirely. Then I come across something related and bam, all that info comes rushing back. That happens to me with a lot of stuff but oddly enough not bands - they're the exception.

IN ADDITION

Good song, with an even better cover. But then again Minniva always makes stellar covers. \m/

Loads of good music out recently. New Dzö-nga, Thy Catafalque and of course Pyogenesis. January has been exceptional.

Speaking of which, I may have just upp'd the rating of it to 8/10. I dunno why but I like it quite a bit. Certainly the best Poppy album as a whole.

I remember not long ago Spotify recommended me a song by something called "Varg". I assumed at the time this was Varg Vikernes and since I think he's an idiotic, insufferable cunt I naturally didn't give two fucks what his racist ass makes or how good/bad it is so I just clicked "I don't like Varg" so it wouldn't show any more recommendations. I later learned "Varg" is the name of a German metal band that does not, in fact, have anything to do with Varg Vikernes.

Whoops. Turns out I didn't like their music anyway, so no real harm done in the end. :p

Only a little over a week until my next gig, going to see Testament, Exodus and Dark Angel on 10th. I haven't listened to Dark Angel much, but Testament and Exodus are among my favorites and I've seen Testament once before.

Spotify recommended me a decent melodeath album from last year that I missed.

"The Last Day on Earth" by Haunted by Silhouettes.

Not for everyone, mostly a fairly traditional and "harder" flavour of melodeath, but also a bit of a deathcore influence going on as well as occasional clean vocals and vaguely progressive-influenced parts on some songs so it probably was too hard for the metalcore lot and too soft for the fans of the harder stuff. Works for me though.

Me again, you guys alive?

Today's find is some atmospheric/ambient BM from Russia

"Restless Souls" - Aesculeta

Quite chill, lots of synth, nice moods.

Album of the Year

Postby Anti-Dystopia » Wed Feb 05, 2020 12:45 pm

Korn - The Nothing

For me, that was album of the year. Every single song was a jam! But I also loved everything about Fear Inoculum.

And I checked out Aesculeta, very interesting sound, I like it a lot

I haven't really cared much for Koᴙn's new stuff. They were great in the 90s but since then they've lost it from my standpoint. Tool are still going strong on the other hand (they're one of my personal favourites).

Dark Angel is one of those bands I know I'll love because they're on the darker, more aggressive side of thrash like Slayer and Sepultura and Morbid Saint, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Never got the appeal of Exodus. Curious to hear how they all hold up on stage nowadays...
