SotY did not change, Die by the Blade by Beast in Black is the best song that came out this year. Honorable mention goes to Bismarck by Sabaton, it came close.

AotY did not change either but that's mostly because I've fallen so far behind on 2019 albums. My backlog is longer than what I've listened to so far. So it's probably going to change in the next one or two months when I get around listening to my backlog.

Bismarck is great, but my SoTY is probably "Sapphire" by Alcest, "Andromeda" by Weyes Blood, "The Raven Child" by Avantasia, or "Arcus" by RL Grime & Graves

Bismarck might be #5 if I create a one song per band limit

I'm hyped for the new Pyogenesis album based on the videos so far. Their last album is probably what I've listened to the most over the past three years, and the new stuff seems to be continuing in a similar vein. They don't quite sound like anyone else (or sometimes the same band track to track lol)

I've been intrigued by Pyogenesis for awhile - I know you've mentioned them a few times here. I'll probably listen to the new album when it comes out.

IMO the two (so far) post-reunion albums are better than anything they put out the first time around because they put all the sounds of the first era together which fits my musical ADHD better than an album of the same style.

Although there was that time they covered Africa, so...

Sometimes bands are past their prime, but they still have contract obligations. That's how you get albums which are not bad in a purely technical sense, it's just that the band involved did everything on autopilot and called it a day after recording the whole uninspired affair.

'The Furnaces of Palingenesia' by Deathspell Omega hit pretty hard; swirling guitars and fantastic drumming, and Aspa's vocals are nothing to shy away from. The lyrics too are phenomenal. If anyone is curious, they've done an interesting interview as well; slightly edgy, but the guy's good with words, gotta give him that.

I don't wanna be one of those guys, but I think they finally caved to the MeToo pressure. I remember they got a bunch of heat from those people for that Pussy Melter guitar pedal a while back. And then they claimed they accidentally deleted the new album uploading it online. Which I'm starting to think was just a cover story to go back and tone it down.

And if you tone down Steel Panther, what's the point?

From the poll, Great War has got to be my favorite from 2019. The close second for me would've been Amon Amarth's Berserker

Every other option on the poll must be terrible then if Great War was your choice considering how thoroughly disappointing and underwhelming it was.

Mediocrity tends to dominate, because it is easier to market.
