I’m slightly surprised you liked that Critical Defiance song since they border on death/thrash territory at times. *epiphany* Maybe that’s your gateway to acclimating to death metal.... listen to any early kreator, sodom, early Slayer, Sepultura, morbid saint, necrophagist? The line between thrash and death can get very very blurry.

I've already linked Kreator's Warrior Heart here before, and someone earlier linked Testament's Native Blood - both of which I love. Granted I don't look at Thrash much often, but there's probably more out there I'll like.

And I am the Power/Symphonic/Heavy Metal guy. As I said: those are my go-to genres. ;)

I always link Native Blood I always post pride, even if it is for groups I am not a part of.

I enjoy Kreator's 00s/10s output quite a bit too, they've aged well. Warrior Heart is a cool song! Enemy of God from 2005 is a great album too.

But there's no matching the raw, primal violence of classics like this. Truly the extreme end of Thrash. The tom drum sound is like it's being played with bloody skeleton bones! If the transition at 1:57 to the end can make you bare your teeth and snap your neck, I'm convinced you can learn to dabble in some old school death metal too :)

If not, oh well, I won't give up on you just yet

Day trip to Estonia. What other Finns get? Booze. What did I get? New Metsatöll album. I got booze too but that's beside the point.

There were some really good songs on there, title track, Kange kui raud and Talvehambad being my favorites, but overall it wasn't as good as Karjajuht or Iivakivi.

Estonia, huh? The Baltic region is on my bucketlist to visit. Always felt more drawn to Latvia though. Plus, from what I've heard, Skyforger > Metsatöll :p Willing to try the new album though if you recommend it.

Looks like a nice night for a Black Wedding.

Always nice seeing older Metal acts collaborate with the newer Metal acts, especially pioneers of the genre like Halford.

Do you like brutal metal, and do you also like extreme knitting? If so, maybe you are warrior enough to participate in this very Finnish competition.

I just noticed that Deafheaven is on the poll

Seriously? They are terrible! Have you ever seen them live? They play with a backdrop video of them driving around in a fucking car. Plus, their music is trash.

Absolute poser/shitty band.

Everyone knows that Japan is weird, but Finland is pretty close second one :p

Maybe a new poll would be a good idea? I mean it's July and the poll still asks about the best 2018 metal album :p

Wouldn’t be my choice either, but I put them on the poll because I know some people here do like them a lot and wanted to be inclusive of the different tastes on the board :)

And fuck, Cad’s right. Ideas, anybody?

Best Sabaton Album?

Wait, no, The Great War comes out Friday. Let's wait till we can all give it a listen first.

The answer will always be Carolous Rex because every album since then is a shallow release that relies on either a good hook or a few catchy riffs. Sabaton died when most of the band left.

Recently I picked up Serenity In Fire, which is pretty catchy. A surprising amount of black metal riffs, too. Doesn't sound forced, it fits their sound quite well.

That's the only album of theirs I've listened to. The Ambassador of Pain and Blood on the Swans are great, the rest wasn't all that good. But then again it's almost ten years since I first heard it in it's entirety, so it's definitely due to a revisit.

For those that like the slower side of metal, I would highly recommend Asva for drone metal. Like even 10 years ago I absolutely had a love for this song.

Now this is fucking awesome :p The lyrics are cool and match the album cover. The harmonizing guitars and higher vocals towards the end did indeed have more of a black metal feeling (Rotting Christ especially) than the other work I've heard by Kataklysm. Intrigued! Oddly, the first riffs made me think of Amon Amarth.
