I had no idea Amaranthe covered Army of the Night by Powerwolf.

I dare say, it's at least just as good as the original - if not even better. It helps that I absolutely love Elize's voice in just about everything she does.

Okay, having listened to the original again I have to say Amaranthe's cover is far superior.

Combining a cappella with heavy metal is certainly not something I ever thought you could do. I'm not upset with the results, though. Seems metal can go with quite literally anything...

...except Country, but that's for the best.

That commonly depends on your personal preferences. But yeah, there are few things that cannot be combined with shredding guitars.

It's a mediocre metal version of Highwayman.

Yeah, that's not what I meant. That's basically just a Metal version of a Country song; what I meant was an actual blending of Country and Metal, which would be atrocious.

It's a pretty 'meh' cover, too. I say this as an Iced Earth fan. Even Michael Poulsen couldn't make it better - and I say this as an even bigger fan of Volbeat.

I mean... for a Country song, it's not that bad. But it's nothing amazing. Tolerable at worst; tolerable at best.

Mainstream metal bands like Avenged Sevenfold and In Flames have both written songs that attempt to fuse some country into metal, using steel guitars and the like (see songs “Dear God” and “Metaphor”). Hell, even Volbeat’s singer has an Elvis-like twang a lot of the time. Definite country vibes there

Zeal & Ardor make it work with perhaps an even stranger combination genres (black metal + slave spirituals & blues). If that can work, so can metal + country. In the end, the closest thing to what you’re thinking of might just be the angry, dark, punkish or distorted country made by the likes of Hank Williams III and Those Dirty Bastards (Hellbilly and Gothic Country are actual genres).

Yeah, it’s a classic. In the span of three minutes, it captures so many places and times and yet also makes you feel connected to it all - everything that ever was. I didn’t know Iced Earth made a cover, so thanks for turning me on to that.
