Thought I'd share something a bit more underground. The atmosphere really does it for me.

Someone listened to death metal and liked it on the first listen?

With no prior experience with the extreme side at all. This is rare shit. Even I had to adjust to Death Metal

Rare indeed. I don't know anyone who's dived into extreme metal and liked it immediately.

Genre purists are going to hate the fact that RYM seems to have accepted Nu-Metal and Post-Metal as actual genres now. It's probably been that way for a while, but I remember when they basically called post-metal atmospheric sludge metal, and nu-metal just alternative metal.

Well not every genre applies consistently to every song/album
Like what the fuck is this classified as? The Zombies soundtrack has never really matched with any genre, Archangel being the exception as it is some sort of Gothic Death Metal hybrid.

Yeah, but I remember people who hated those terms being anything besides fake terms. Now they seem to be becoming accepted.

And basically with those "hybrid" ones, I don't think they should have their own genres. It should just be labeled Gothic Metal and Death Metal.

This is a great song.

Yes, I know, it's AA. They are metal and they don't suck, so please spare the hate.

Amon Amarth may not be the most innovative band in the world, but I've always got a soft spot for em.
Asking Alexandria on the other hand? I dunno, man.

'Kay, now I wanna see what all this Greek Metal is about. Who can deliver?

If it isn't Byzantine themed I'm going to be super disappointed. Also, Russia's is way smaller than I'd expect it to be.

Not bad. Lyrics sucked, but the chorus was real nice. Instrumentals were awesome.

Not better than Byzantine-themed metal though. Byzantium was metal as fuck.

So does rating all the songs on "Track review" on RYM do anything specific? It'd be neat if it gave you like an average score if you rated them all.

You mean like rating each individual song on an album? Yes, it does give you an average if you go to the Track Ratings section of your profile.

You can also see total average ratings for each track for the whole site if you are a subscriber.

Sweet.

Strangely, I've seen that last thing a few times? But not always.

A good thing Finland managed to get away from the suffocating embrace of Mother Russia.

Are there any worthwhile exodus albums? Bonded and Fabulous Disaster don't impress me.

Gary Holt seems like a cool guy but I never liked Exodus either

In other news, there are SO MANY metal albums coming out in the next week that I want to hear:
Avantasia
Saor
Asphodelus
Candlemass
Rhapsody of Fire
Dream Theater

A welcome change after the slow start to the year.

I discovered Powerwolf yesterday and they're pretty sweet. Their instruments are great, their singer has a very badass and iconic voice, and their lyrics are fucking excellent.

And hooooooooly fuuuuuck is Incense and Iron a kickass song. It pumps me up in ways I thought only Sabaton was possible of achieving. I mean, that whole album is cool, but this song in particular is absolutely fucking AWESOME! It's not often that a song makes me want to headbang, even a metal song, but this is one of those rare songs! \m/

Oh, and I love this song by Alestorm I discovered yesterday as well. It's so ridiculous, but in a good way! The video is just as ridiculous, which is great as well.

Dream Theater, Candlemass and Overkill for me.
