Spotify find of the week: The Howling Void. Clean vocal doom (clean on the most recent albums, anyway) with progressive and black metal influences in the guitar work. The last two albums are pretty neat.

Thew Womb Beyond This World is perfect, but other than that not really my thing. Mostly because other songs on that album were like that one, just weaker. It's symphonic funeral doom though, so I might give a shot for their newer stuff.

So while I was away from Metal a bit, took a break and all, I found some new genres and I stumbled upon the genre of Trap Metal, which combines Trap rap with Metal elements if it's vocals, riffs, samples or whatever. Kinda liked it so I thought I could share it here.

They are. For me they are one of those bands who released an amazing debut album and every album since has been weaker than the last. However, the fourth album is still a very good one. They're also a great live band.

So I'm seeing Behemoth, At the Gates and Wolves in the Throne Room just 2 days prior to Halloween.

Gonna see At The Gates, Behemoth, Decapitated, Paradise Lost, Goatwhore, Dying Fetus, Toxic Holocaust, Gojira and Children of Bodom later this month. Last weekend I saw Gruesome, Asphyx, Pestilence, Thanatos, Grave, Carnifex and Suffocation. It truly is the festival season.

Not sure where to put this but ah screw it. I hate calling myself a metal fan, hell I don’t even think that applies to me so I don’t say I’m one. Don’t get me wrong, I love Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. But I hate that garbage they call death metal. How could some of my favourite bands inspired this shit? Ohh and then there is black metal, a load of shit to me. The more metal I listen to these days the more I hate the direction it’s been going in for the last 20 years. Maybe I’m just listening to the wrong stuff? Should just stick to blues I guess.

Death metal and black metal were some of the slowest genres for me to get in, so I get it. I'm still pretty picky in both of those. Maybe that would be the same case for you.

The only thing you are doing wrong is treat Metal as if it was one single genre when in reality it is a category containing many genres. Sort of like Classical Music which contains have stuff like opera, military marches, church organ music and everything in between and around. So really the sort of all or nothing like or dislike that you think you should have just isn't possible simply because of this sheer complexity and breadth.

Personally I am like you as far as tastes are concerned. I don't like anything more growly than Venom. Although Venom is awesome. But as far as I am concerned when people say Metal I think Deep Purple, Manowar, Black Sabbath and the occasional sprinkling of Ninja Magic and not death or trash metal or what ever else is out there. But I proudly call my self a metalhead. And if you don't like metal, you are not my friend!

That's the beauty of Metal for you. It has something for everyone. So just pick your pick and enjoy what you like.
